Russia attacked Ukraine with hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles on June 2nd, killing 23 people and injuring 130.

The attacks on major cities including Kyiv and Dnipro followed warnings from Russia of "systematic" attacks on the Ukrainian capital after a drone strike on a dormitory in the Russian-controlled Luhansk region last month. Kyiv denied targeting the dormitory.

This was the third fierce attack on Kyiv in less than a month, but Russia has been relentlessly attacking Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, since the conflict broke out in 2022.

US-brokered talks on the war in Ukraine are currently stalled as Washington focuses on resolving its conflict with Iran, even though Russian advances have slowed and Kyiv has intensified attacks on Russian oil refineries.

Zelensky said there was evidence that the Russian military could continue its offensive.

"According to our intelligence, another large-scale attack could take place tonight," he said in his daily video address.

"Please, I strongly advise you to pay attention to the air raid warning."

Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine is lacking the weapons to counter Russian missiles. "Unfortunately, the current level of aid to our air defense system does not allow us to intercept many missiles," he said.

He stated that more than 70 missiles and 650 UAVs were deployed in the recent attack, and the Russian military deployed an additional 100 UAVs on June 2nd.

Earlier, the Ukrainian president had urged Washington to send more Patriot interceptor missiles.

"If Ukraine is not protected against ballistic missile attacks and other missile attacks, these attacks will continue," Zelensky said on Telegram.

The Kremlin said the war had entered "a new phase" following what it called an "inhuman act of terrorism" by Ukrainian troops targeting civilians. Last week, Moscow warned of systematic attacks and urged foreigners to leave Kyiv.

Last week, Zelenskiy sent a letter to President Donald Trump and the U.S. Congress requesting additional air defense systems. As of June 1st, Ukrainian officials said he had not yet received a response.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on allies to impose tougher sanctions on Moscow and provide more military aid.

The US is the largest arms donor to Ukraine, but Kyiv has also purchased Patriot missiles through a NATO initiative, funded by European allies.
