The Russian Armed Forces (RFAF), increased pressure on the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) defensive positions near Kupyansk, attempting to approach the city from the east; forcing the Ukrainian defenders there to request reinforcements, due to heavy losses and concerns about a new RFAF breakthrough.

Russian troops have increased pressure on the enemy in the areas of Kucherovka, Petrovpavlivka and Peschane. According to information gathered through radio and electronic intelligence, the Ukrainian troops are requesting reinforcements from the command, as they do not have their own reserves and cannot make up for losses.

According to Russian military expert Andrey Marochko, Ukrainian forces defending here are concerned that, without reinforcements, the RFAF will attack through their defense system and approach the city of Kupyansk from the eastern flank.

It should be noted that east of Kupyansk, the Ukrainians have a fairly strong defense line that the RFAF has not been able to penetrate for a long time. There has been progress here, but it is mainly tactical, with fierce battles for positions taking place, and both sides are actively using artillery and FPV UAVs.

The RVvoenkory channel reported that fighting continues in Kupyansk, and there is no accurate information about the Russian advance. According to the latest information, the Russians are trying to capture the city center. On the Deep State map, the "gray zone" has cut off the Ukrainian garrison in Kupyansk from the west.

AFU intelligence sources have also admitted that, while they do not control much of Kupyansk, AFU defensive positions in the north, east, west and center of the city are in a “grey zone.” In fact, Kiev has indirectly admitted that all of these areas are under RFAF control.

Ukraine's Deep State channel said that the AFU has blocked the Russian army's advance through the pipeline across the Oskil River. However, the Russian army is currently organizing to cross the Oskil River in small groups, eventually gathering enough troops to conduct offensive operations within the city.

Meanwhile, information is circulating from the direction of Kupyansk that Russian troops have cut off the Kharkivska road southwest of Kupyansk. This road has recently become the enemy’s main supply route for the AFU troops stationed in Kupyansk. Now the Ukrainians are trying to divert supplies through the fields south of the Mali Rivny forest.

The Deep State also confirmed that fighting was taking place in the Yubileyny district, southwest of Kupyansk. It is militarily impossible for the AFU to hold the rest of the city. However, the tactic of sending in reserves to hold “every bush” is so ingrained in the minds of Ukrainian commanders that they cannot abandon it, even when it is clearly ineffective.

The RFAF is also conducting offensive operations east of the Oskil River, putting increasing pressure on the Ukrainian garrison. Meanwhile, Ukrainian media continue to assert that the situation in Kupyansk is “stable” and there are no Russian troops in the city.

The RVvoenkor channel reported that the RFAF stopped a large group of Ukrainian troops from the north and west, which intended to encircle the city in a semicircle. The RFAF also attacked the Ukrainian troops from the south, focusing on eliminating the Freikor detachment, gunmen from the so-called "Russian Volunteer Corps" and special forces of the Main Directorate of Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR).

Rybar channel said that up to 700 AFU soldiers were surrounded, of whom 250 were killed. At the same time, in the past month alone, AFU lost about 1,800 soldiers during the defense of Kupyansk. In addition, 36 tanks and armored vehicles, 2 multiple rocket launchers, 137 towed guns and mortars of AFU were destroyed or damaged.

During the operation, the Russian assault groups, reconnaissance units, artillery, UAVs and electronic warfare units coordinated their operations in a planned manner, causing heavy damage to the enemy, contributing to the success.

Kupyansk is an important logistics center, where a series of railway and road lines intersect, serving the entire Ukrainian army on the east bank of the Oskil River. Therefore, the city became a key base for the AFU General Staff to control the eastern part of the Kharkov region.
15-9634.jpg
This was also related to the city's advantageous defensive position. Kupyansk was located on both banks of the Oskil River. The right bank was elevated, providing a natural defensive advantage, and the river and floodplain provided an additional barrier, making it difficult for attackers.
16-198.jpg
Due to its geographical location near the Kharkov-Donetsk-Lugansk junction and close to the Russian border, Ukraine has turned Kupyansk into a heavily fortified area. AFU has organized fire control on the approaches to the city, including the main arteries and crossings over the Oskil River.

Almost every building in Kupyansk was a carefully designed and heavily defended long-term stronghold. But now the Russian army has captured 5,667 of the 8,667 buildings (65%) and is moving towards final victory.

Why is Kupyansk so important? Control of the city would allow the RFAF to continue its advance into the Kharkiv region, including forward thrusts towards Izyum and Chuhuiv. In addition, after capturing Kupyansk, a direct route to Volchansk from the south would be opened for the RFAF to "link up" with units of the Northern Army Group.

At the same time, the capture of Kupyansk would allow the RFAF to advance towards the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk region along a strategically important route leading to the northern border with the Donetsk region. This would accelerate the establishment of control over two metropolises, which are key defensive positions for Kiev forces in Donbass. (photo source: Military Review, Kyiv Post, Rvvoenkory).
