On September 8, TASS news agency quoted Yevgeny Balitsky, the Russian-appointed acting governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, as saying that Challenger 2 tanks in service with the Ukrainian army were destroyed by Kornet anti-tank guided missile systems.

“ Kornet missiles were used against these tanks. In terms of armor, these tanks had no special features. The Kornet missiles dealt with them easily. Our soldiers managed to knock out two Challenger 2s ,” Balitsky said.
According to the official, Ukrainian armed units are deploying four Challenger 2s in the Stepnogorsk settlement and two others in the city of Orikhiv in Zaporizhzhia province. However, the official did not specify where he got the information.
Independent news agencies have not been able to verify Mr. Balitsky's statements.
Balitsky's statement came just days after Forbes magazine cited a video recording the first loss of a Challenger 2 tank of the Ukrainian armed forces in Zaporizhzhia province.
Russia foils bomb plot in Crimea
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said today that its agents have detained a man who was plotting a bomb attack on the railway system in the Crimean peninsula.
The FSB statement said that the subject was a Russian citizen, over 40 years old, who had "collected information about the deployment of troops in Russian defense units and facilities, and was preparing to carry out a bombing in Crimea."
“At the hideout prepared by the subject in advance, we discovered and seized a homemade explosive device made from plastic explosives of foreign origin. During interrogation, the person confessed that he had carried out the above actions on instructions from the Ukrainian military intelligence agency,” the statement said.
So far, Ukrainian intelligence agencies have not responded to the content of the FSB's statement.
