In Vietnam, the development of artificial intelligence is being prioritized as a key objective in accelerating the country's technological advancement. During a seminar with Nvidia leaders in September 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung requested Nvidia's support in developing Vietnam's sovereign artificial intelligence and building national-level AI solutions.
AI is considered a national strategic technology, with numerous programs and projects aimed at promoting the development of sovereign AI and building LLM models in Vietnam. To build sovereign AI, the government is focusing on five main priorities, including developing AI human resources with the goal of training more than 50,000 AI engineers by 2030.

Recognizing the importance of developing high-quality human resources in the AI industry, many universities have begun developing training programs in artificial intelligence. In 2025, several universities, such as the University of Banking Ho Chi Minh City and Gia Dinh University, have already launched additional AI-related programs.
Many prestigious universities in the technology sector have relatively high entrance scores for Artificial Intelligence programs. In 2024, the Artificial Intelligence program at the University of Information Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) had the highest cutoff score at 28.3 points. Similarly, at the University of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), the cutoff score for Artificial Intelligence in 2024 was 27.7 points (based on high school graduation exam results).
Not only in engineering and technology schools, but many economics schools have also included Artificial Intelligence in their training programs. For example, the University of Economics and Law of Ho Chi Minh City opened a Digital Business and Artificial Intelligence major in 2020, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) opened an Artificial Intelligence major in 2023, and in 2024, the National Economics University (NEU) also opened an Artificial Intelligence major.

The inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the curricula of many universities nationwide demonstrates an educational orientation aligned with the country's development goals. However, AI training requires significant investment, from faculty and experts to infrastructure. Furthermore, universities need to create spaces and platforms where students can apply their AI knowledge to real-world situations; connect students with technology companies to understand how domestic AI products are being developed… These are all challenging but necessary tasks in the context of the growing emphasis on training human resources in the AI sector.
Zalo AI Challenge - a real-world artificial intelligence competition for young people.
As an annual artificial intelligence competition organized by Zalo, Zalo AI Challenge 2025 offers young people passionate about technology the opportunity to solve real-world AI problems.
With the theme "AI as an efficient partner," the Zalo AI Challenge 2025 has a total prize pool of up to 12,000 USD. Registration officially opens on October 27, 2025, and the submission deadline is November 20, 2025.

This year, the Zalo AI Challenge features two highly practical challenges aimed at solving pressing social issues in Vietnam. The challenge, “AeroEyes - Finding and Rescuing with AI-Powered Drones,” requires teams to develop algorithms to control drones to perform a specific task in a real-world environment using images captured by the drone, simulating a real-world search and rescue mission. The challenge, “RoadBuddy – Understanding the Road through Dashcam AI,” aims to build a driving assistant capable of understanding video content from dashcams to quickly answer questions related to traffic signs, signals, and driving directions.

Dr. Chau Thanh Duc – Deputy Head of the competition organizing committee, Director of Research & Development at Zalo AI, shared: “The Zalo AI Challenge is organized to introduce the latest global trends to the Vietnamese AI community through highly applicable and practical problems. The competition is not only a playground for young people to challenge themselves, but also a place to connect AI enthusiasts, promoting cooperation and developing the Vietnamese AI community.”
Young people wishing to test their skills in Vietnam's biggest AI competition can visit the website challenge.zalo.ai for more detailed information about the contest. Zalo AI Challenge 2025 promises to continue being a launching pad for young Vietnamese talents, contributing to spreading the spirit of innovation and affirming Vietnam's position on the global artificial intelligence map.
The Zalo AI Challenge is an annual competition organized by Zalo with the aim of promoting AI research on a large scale, encouraging talented young people in the field of AI to participate in solving practical problems to bring artificial intelligence to serve human life. First held in 2018, the competition has since attracted thousands of teams from both within and outside Vietnam each year to test their skills and prove their abilities.
