The Department of Industry and Trade has played a key role as an advisory body assisting the People's Committee of Son La province in the state management of industry and trade, covering the following sectors and fields: Mechanical engineering; metallurgy; electricity; new energy; renewable energy; energy conservation and efficiency; chemicals; industrial explosives; mining and mineral processing (excluding conventional construction materials); consumer goods industry; food industry; supporting industries; environmental industry; other processing industries; small-scale handicrafts; industrial promotion; trade activities and goods circulation in the province; sustainable production and consumption; export and import; border trade; trade promotion; e-commerce; commercial services; competition management; consumer protection and management of multi-level marketing activities; trade defense; international economic integration; and management of industrial clusters in the province. In the first quarter of 2026, under the close leadership and guidance of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade , along with the close coordination of various departments and agencies, the Son La Department of Industry and Trade proactively and comprehensively implemented tasks and solutions for the development of the industry, thereby achieving many positive results in the industrial and commercial sectors. The industrial production index increased by 45.5% compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the electricity, gas, hot water, steam, and air conditioning production and distribution sector increased by 63.1%; the mining sector increased by 19.77%; and the water supply and waste treatment sector increased by 9.7%. Several industrial products showed significant increases: electricity production increased by 63.1%; processed tea increased by 492%; construction stone increased by 19.78%; and commercial tap water increased by 8.12%.

Trade activities continued to develop steadily, with total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue estimated at VND 11,780 billion, an increase of 17.1% compared to the same period last year. The supply of goods was abundant and circulation was smooth, meeting production and consumption needs. The value of goods participating in exports was estimated at USD 98.33 million, an increase of 11.9% compared to the same period last year. In the first quarter, market management forces inspected 300 cases, handled 273 violations; collected over VND 2,440 million for the state budget; and confiscated and destroyed goods worth over VND 1,231 million. To continue effectively implementing the industry's tasks in the coming period, the Son La Department of Industry and Trade will continue to closely follow the directives of the Central Government and the province, effectively implementing solutions to develop industry and trade, stabilize the market, boost exports, and contribute to achieving the socio-economic development goals for 2026.
