In recent years, the province's ornamental plants industry has made positive contributions to the development of agriculture, rural areas and farmers. Participating in ornamental plant activities today is not only an elegant hobby, satisfying the need to enjoy cultural values, but also brings high economic efficiency, contributing to the construction of new rural areas in the locality.
The model of growing cut-branch mokara orchids of Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh's household (An Dien ward, Ben Cat city) was supported with orchid varieties by the Department of Rural Development, bringing high efficiency.
According to the assessment of the Provincial Ornamental Plants Association (AOS), up to now, the activities of the AOS industry have had positive changes, thereby contributing to increased production, improved lives of AOS growers and traders, many households have escaped poverty and become well-off. Revenue from AOS farming is quite large, with an average of 600 million VND - 1.2 billion VND/year/ha for orchids, about 800 million VND/ha/year for apricot trees, and 800 million VND - 1 billion VND/household for ornamental fish farming.
In the province, there are currently 15 specialized SVC clubs, with over 700 members, operating in the fields of: Bonsai - miniature landscape, art bonsai, ornamental orchids, ornamental birds, ornamental fish... Many SVC members have switched to growing and trading SVC on a large scale, forming flower and ornamental plant growing areas in Thu Dau Mot City, Thuan An City, Di An City, Ben Cat City, Tan Uyen City with an area of over 100 hectares. The types of ornamental plants grown are increasingly diverse, from green trees designed for gardens to miniature landscapes to decorate houses and offices. In addition, in the province, there are 50 establishments producing various types of pedestals and pots for the orchid and ornamental plant industry, annually supplying the market with more than 1 million products of all kinds.
Currently, many gardeners, artisans, and farmers are converting crop structures or intercropping with bonsai to generate additional income. In recent times, in order to have a long-term development orientation, the Provincial Bonsai Association has coordinated with the Department of Rural Development to guide and train bonsai enthusiasts to grasp the techniques and shape bonsai trees to create beautiful works, contributing to improving the spiritual and material life of the people. At the same time, the two units also coordinate to promote the movement of planting and caring for trees in the premises of agencies, units, schools, historical and cultural relics, contributing to creating a green - clean - beautiful landscape in the province.
It can be said that the development of SVC models is very necessary, not only helping participants in this model increase their income but also contributing positively to the shift in labor structure and income of people in rural areas, increasing the value of land use in the agricultural sector.
