What kind of jobs can you get after graduating with a degree in Applied Mathematics?

Applied mathematics is a field of study that applies mathematical methods and models to solve problems in science , engineering, economics, finance, insurance, computer science, and industry. This field plays an extremely important role in all areas of society, especially in the era of Industry 4.0.

When studying Applied Mathematics, students will receive in-depth training in many areas of mathematics such as: Discrete Mathematics (Mathematical Logic - mathematical thinking skills); Linear Algebra (Matrixes, Determinants, Euclidean spaces, Linear Mappings); Analysis; Statistics; Mathematical Modeling and Optimization Theory.

In developed countries, data analysts, financial analysts, risk assessors, statisticians, and software engineers, many of whom excel in mathematics, are highly sought after by companies and businesses, often receiving attractive salaries.

According to an article on the website of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the demand for human resources in applied mathematics in Vietnam is always "scarce," especially for high-quality human resources.

Currently, the average salary for a financial analyst is around 15-16 million VND/month, and 18-30 million VND/month for a software engineer.

Some universities offer programs in Applied Mathematics.

The University of Transport and Communications is recruiting students for its Applied Mathematics program through four methods: admission based on high school graduation exam scores, direct admission, admission based on aptitude test scores organized by Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and admission based on high school graduation exam scores.

In 2023, the cutoff score for the Applied Mathematics major was 22.55 points (A00; A01; D07). The expected tuition fee for students enrolling in 2023 was 415.8 thousand VND/credit, equivalent to 12.5 million VND/academic year.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology uses four subject combinations for admission to the Applied Mathematics major, including: A00; A01; B00; and D07. Using the high school graduation exam scores as the admission criterion, the minimum admission score for this major is 22.55 points.

In addition, the school also uses two other methods for admission: admission based on the results of the aptitude test organized by the school, and direct admission.

Hanoi Metropolitan University - 2023 admissions for the Applied Mathematics major are based on four methods: direct admission and priority; consideration of international foreign language proficiency certificates; consideration of academic transcripts; and admission based on high school graduation exam results.

Using the method of considering high school graduation exam scores, the school sets the admission cutoff score for the Applied Mathematics major at 23.55 points (A01; A00; D07; D01).

Quy Nhon University admits students to its Applied Mathematics program through four methods: based on high school graduation exam results; based on the results of aptitude and thinking assessment exams of national universities and other universities; based on high school academic transcripts; and direct admission.

Using the high school graduation exam scores as the admission criterion, this major sets the cutoff score for admission at 15 points (A00; A01; D07; D90). This year, students are expected to pay between 14.5 and 18.2 million VND per academic year.

Can Tho University - in 2023, the minimum admission score for the Applied Mathematics major based on high school graduation exam scores was 22.85 points. Meanwhile, the admission score based on academic transcripts was 26 points. Both methods considered four subject combinations: A00, A01, A02, and B00.

The school sets the tuition fee for this major at 17.9 million VND per academic year.
