An exam room can have up to 5 subjects.
On the morning of June 27, candidates began taking two optional exams in the 2025 high school graduation exam.
Candidates entered the final two exams with different moods after completing the first two compulsory exams, math and literature, on June 26 with mixed opinions about the level of the exam.

In general, the literature test was not considered too difficult, but the math test made many candidates cry because they did not complete the test as expected. The candidates' mood when taking the final exam also depends on the subject combination they choose for university admission.
Candidate Nguyen Duy Duc, in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, said that he was considering block T01 (math, literature, sports talent) and D00 (literature, mathematics, English) and had an English certificate to get foreign language points, so he focused on two subjects: literature and math on the first day of the exam.
Duc did quite well in literature and math, and was able to get high scores, so he didn't feel too much pressure when taking the two elective subjects, biology and English.
This year's exam significantly reduces pressure on candidates by reducing the number of subjects and sessions.
The exam has reduced the number of sessions from 4 sessions as in previous years to 3 sessions. Instead of 6 subjects as before, the number of subjects has been reduced to 4, of which math and literature are compulsory.
2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 include foreign languages, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economic and legal education, information technology, technology. Each elective subject has a test time of 50 minutes in the form of multiple choice.
These two elective subjects were tested in the same exam session this morning, June 27, and are called the elective exam. This is a difference from previous years when taking the combined exam because some exam rooms may have candidates taking many different elective subjects and taking the elective subjects at different times.

For candidates studying the 2018 generaleducation program, each candidate will take 3 exams in the same exam room. For elective exams, the same exam room can have candidates taking up to 5 exams at the same time.
For the 2 elective subjects, the number of exam codes will increase to 48 for each subject instead of 24 as last year. Candidates taking the first exam will be given exam codes from 1 to 24, and candidates taking the second exam will be given exam codes from 25 to 48.
Candidates for both the first and second exams must arrive at the beginning of the exam. Candidates for the first exam will return to the waiting room and wait until the end of the exam before leaving. Candidates for the second exam will wait in the waiting room and go to the exam room when it is time.

For candidates taking the exam with the 2006 General Education Program, the exam organization still follows the process of previous years, relatively clear and strict with candidates choosing 3 component subjects in the natural science exam or the social science exam.
At that time, this group of candidates still took the component exams at the same time and with the same set of exam questions and had their papers collected at the same time.
High school graduation exam scores only account for 50%
This is a special exam, organized for the first time under the new 2018 General Education Program, while ensuring the exam for students taking the 2006 General Education Program.
This is also the largest exam ever, with the participation of more than 1.1 million candidates across 63 provinces and cities, held at 2,493 exam locations with more than 50,000 exam rooms.
Not only that, organizing the exam poses different challenges and requirements when the exam takes place in the context of the whole country implementing a two-tier local government arrangement.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, this year, the whole country has 1,137,183 candidates registered to take the exam under the 2018 General Education Program and 24,951 candidates under the 2006 General Education Program.
In addition to the two compulsory subjects of literature (1,151,687 candidates) and math (1,145,449 candidates), among the elective subjects, history is the subject with the most registrations with 499,357 registrations.
Next is geography with 494,081 candidates, English with 358,870 candidates; physics (354,298 candidates), economic and legal education (247,248 candidates - only applicable to the 2018 program) and chemistry (246,700 candidates).

High school graduation exam scores only account for 50%, the remaining 50% comes from the results of 3 years of high school (Photo: Hai Long).
An important new point in this year's high school graduation exam is that the exam score only accounts for 50%, the remaining 50% is taken from the results of 3 years of high school study. This change is consistent with the 2018 General Education Program, emphasizing the development of students' abilities and qualities throughout the learning process.
