On the largest scale ever, the city mobilized all forces from education , police, health, volunteer youth, and local authorities to ensure the exam was conducted safely, seriously, fairly, and effectively.

Along with tightening discipline, examination centers are implementing various support measures to help candidates maintain a stable mindset and perform at their best.

Prioritize providing the best conditions for candidates.

On May 30th, Hanoi candidates completed the Literature and Foreign Language exams for the 2026-2027 entrance exam to public non-specialized high schools.

This is the largest-scale 10th-grade entrance exam ever held in the capital city, with nearly 125,000 candidates registering to take the exam. To facilitate the exam, the city established 224 examination centers with more than 5,300 official examination rooms, along with a system of backup examination rooms; approximately 18,000 officials, teachers, and staff were mobilized to participate in the organizational aspects.

As of 5 PM on May 30th, information from examination centers across the city indicates that the exams are proceeding normally, safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations. No violations of regulations by invigilators have been recorded throughout the city.

However, on the first day of the exam, two candidates violated the exam regulations. One candidate violated the rules during the Literature exam and the other during the Foreign Language exam. Both cases involved the same violation: bringing a mobile phone into the examination room.

According to current examination regulations, these candidates will not be eligible to participate in the admission process for 10th grade in public high schools for the 2026-2027 academic year.

To prevent similar mistakes from happening again in the final exam, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires exam center leaders to continue thoroughly reviewing all organizational aspects, reminding candidates multiple times before entering the exam room, especially regarding prohibited items. The education sector also requires exam center leaders to maintain high levels of focus and avoid complacency in any aspect to ensure the exam is conducted safely, stably, and in accordance with regulations.

Before the Literature exam, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Hanoi City Examination and Admission Steering Committee for the 2016-2027 school year, personally inspected the exam organization at the Thanh Cong Secondary School examination site.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, in order to prepare for the largest-scale exam ever, the city has assigned specific tasks to each member of the Steering Committee at all levels, and simultaneously implemented comprehensive plans to ensure the necessary facilities, personnel, and conditions for the exam.

At the examination sites, examination rooms, reserve rooms, stationery, and equipment for the exam have all been fully prepared. The city has also arranged waiting areas for parents and candidates to create a relaxed atmosphere before the exam begins.

The Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training stated that the overarching principle instilled in the examination supervisors is to strictly adhere to regulations while avoiding putting pressure on students. Supervisors must both maintain discipline in the examination room and provide support to help candidates maintain composure and perform at their best.

In addition, medical , security, and safety forces have been fully prepared. Specific plans for handling any health-related situations that may arise for candidates have been developed. If necessary, each examination center has backup examination rooms and support plans to ensure the rights of the students are protected.

To respond to unforeseen circumstances, localities have proactively prepared backup power sources, waiting areas for parents, and plans to assist with transportation in the event of heavy rain, flooding, or other unforeseen incidents.

The numbers are noteworthy.

Hanoi has established 224 examination centers with more than 5,300 official examination rooms.

Approximately 18,000 officials, teachers, and staff participated in serving the exam.

Literature subject: 123,692 candidates took the exam, achieving a participation rate of 99.69%.

Foreign Language subject: 123,681 candidates took the exam, achieving a participation rate of 99.68%.

Five candidates required medical assistance during each exam session.

Two candidates violated the exam regulations.

Many forces are accompanying the candidates.

In addition to focusing on organizing the exams, the Hanoi City Steering Committee for Exams and Admissions for the 2016-2027 school year has directed units and localities to implement many solutions to support candidates and parents throughout the examination period.

At many examination sites, waiting areas for parents are set up near the examination halls, equipped with shelters, tables and chairs, fans, and free drinking water. Authorities, youth union members, and volunteers are constantly on duty to guide and assist people.

As one of the students participating in the "Supporting Students During Exams" program, Nguyen Tinh Mai, a student from the Banking Academy working at the exam site at Nguyen Du Secondary School (Hoan Kiem ward), said that this is the second year she has been involved in the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi.

According to Mai, the pressure on 9th-grade students is quite high right now because this is an important and highly competitive exam. Many students enter the exam centers feeling anxious, while the hot weather also makes things more difficult for parents and students. Based on this reality, the volunteer teams have determined that their mission goes beyond simply providing water or guidance to candidates; it also involves offering moral support to help students feel more confident before taking the exam.

This year, the Banking Academy deployed volunteer teams at more than 10 examination locations, with over 700 students participating to support the 10th grade entrance exam and the high school graduation exam.

Before taking on their duties, the volunteers received thorough training in assisting candidates, handling unforeseen situations, and coordinating with local authorities. Many students had participated in previous years, giving them additional experience to provide more effective support.

According to Mai, seemingly simple tasks like distributing drinking water, giving directions, assisting parents to the waiting area, or encouraging candidates have yielded positive results. Many candidates emerged from the exam room feeling relaxed and happy because they had done well, which motivated the volunteers to continue their involvement in this activity.

Along with the volunteer youth force, medical services at the examination sites were also prepared well in advance.

According to Ms. Dinh Thi Lan, a medical staff member at Nguyen Du Secondary School, right from the planning stage for the exam, the school's medical department reviewed all facilities, necessary medicines, and medical supplies. The school also coordinated with the Hoan Kiem Ward Health Station to check environmental hygiene conditions, water sources, and other factors related to health safety at the examination site.

Based on years of experience in this role, common health problems faced by exam supervisors include fatigue, stomach aches, sunstroke, or heatstroke due to psychological stress and weather conditions. Therefore, specific response plans have been developed to ensure that students can receive support whenever needed.

For more complex situations, the testing center proactively plans to coordinate with local health facilities to ensure that candidates receive timely care and can continue to complete the exam if they are in good health.

Meanwhile, parents also acknowledged and appreciated the support provided by the city at the examination sites. Mr. Nguyen Dang Thang, whose child is taking the exam at Phan Dinh Phung High School, said that parents were arranged to wait near the school, which was very convenient for dropping off and picking up their children.

The waiting area was well-prepared with parking, tables and chairs, fans, drinking water, and a team of volunteers providing regular assistance. This helped parents reduce stress while waiting and feel more at ease while their children took the exam.

In addition to volunteer youth, many other forces were mobilized to serve the exam. The police, electricity company, health department, local authorities, and related units all developed plans for on-call duty and emergency response throughout the exam period to ensure security and safety at the examination sites.

At the examination sites, the police force has reinforced security both inside and outside the premises, coordinating traffic flow, maintaining order at the school gates, and creating favorable conditions for candidates to arrive on time. The electricity sector has deployed technical personnel on duty, ready to handle any power-related issues; the health sector has prepared sufficient personnel, medicines, and necessary equipment to support candidates in case of health problems.

The coordinated efforts of various forces contributed to the stable, safe, and compliant operation of examination centers throughout the city, while also creating a sense of reassurance for candidates and parents on the first day of the exam.

The exam questions closely follow the new curriculum, giving candidates more confidence.

Besides the organization, this year's exam questions have also received great attention from teachers, parents, and students. This is the second year that Hanoi's high school entrance exam for 10th grade has been conducted according to the 2018 General Education Program.

According to teachers directly teaching 9th grade, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the exam structure and sample questions in August 2024. This is an important basis for schools to develop teaching and review plans and to help students have a clear direction in the preparation process. As a result, both teachers and students feel secure and confident in their review and participation in the exam.

Commenting on the Literature exam, Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung, a Literature teacher at the HOCMAI education system, said that this year's exam had a familiar structure with two parts: Reading Comprehension and Writing, closely adhering to the learning objectives of the 2018 General Education Program.

According to Mr. Hung, the exam had many advantages for the candidates. The questions were clearly presented, the content was familiar, and the structure was similar to the sample exam as well as the previous year's exam. This helped students avoid feeling surprised, thus making them more confident when taking the exam.

In the Reading Comprehension section, the text is a free verse poem with basic questions about poetic form, imagery, rhetorical devices, and practical applications. These are all types of questions that students have become familiar with during their studies.

Meanwhile, the Writing section, consisting of a literary essay and a social commentary essay, are both familiar question types. According to Mr. Hung, if students master the essay-writing methods guided by their teachers, they can completely fulfill the requirements of the exam.

Teacher Hung also noted that the differentiation in the exam did not lie in trick questions, but mainly reflected in the students' reasoning skills, presentation style, literary appreciation abilities, and depth of thinking.

For the Foreign Language subject, many candidates assessed the exam questions as closely following the review material and having a reasonable differentiation. Nguyen Thao Nhi, a candidate at the Thach Ban Secondary School exam center (Long Bien ward), said that this year's exam had a moderate difficulty level and was quite similar to the types of questions she had practiced during her exam preparation.

According to Thao Nhi, the exam structure hasn't changed much, so candidates aren't surprised and can easily approach it. Thanks to thorough preparation, she didn't encounter many difficulties during the exam and expects to achieve good results. However, this year's exam includes some challenging questions that require candidates to carefully read each answer option instead of relying solely on familiar clues as they did during practice tests.

Thảo Nhi believes the exam wasn't too difficult but required careful attention. Candidates who read the questions carefully, have a solid grasp of the material, and calmly handle the questions will have a greater chance of achieving high scores.

After completing the first two exams, many candidates felt more relaxed. Doing well in Literature and Foreign Language gave them more motivation and confidence to move on to Mathematics – the final exam of the period.

On the morning of May 31st, candidates took the Mathematics exam – concluding the entrance exam for 10th grade in non-specialized public high schools for the 2026-2027 school year in Hanoi. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training expects to announce the exam results between June 19th and June 22nd, 2026.
