The International Day of Happiness was officially announced by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at a UN conference on July 28, 2012. The UN chose March 20th as the International Day of Happiness because it is a special day of the year (the spring equinox), when the sun is directly above the equator, resulting in equal lengths of day and night. This is considered a symbol of balance and harmony in the universe. It also symbolizes the balance between yin and yang, light and darkness, dreams and reality, thus conveying the message that balance and harmony are key to happiness.
Ban Ki-moon said: “We need a new model for the economy that respects equality in the three pillars of sustainable development: social, economic and environmental well-being are inseparable. Together they define total global happiness .”
In Vietnam, this momentous day has arrived for our people, because the Vietnamese people have yearned for happiness for many generations and many years. And they have fought for happiness so that Vietnam can be complete with this slogan: "Independence, Freedom, Happiness".
Currently, the Vietnamese people are basically happy, although this happiness is not yet complete. Therefore, it is essential to make efforts not only from the people but also from all levels of leadership, from the highest level to local leaders, working together with the people to cultivate truly complete happiness for the people.
As for Quang Ngai , the efforts to bring happiness to each family, each village, and each ethnic group in the province are being embraced and implemented. To achieve complete happiness, it must begin with love within each family, neighborly affection, and community spirit, supporting each other through thick and thin. Only by starting with love can true happiness be achieved. International Happiness Day comes to Quang Ngai in this concrete and profound way. We welcome this day with the feelings and personal responsibility of each individual, so that happiness may come to each of us.
