Once upon a time, there was a love story revolving around the friendship and love between two boys and a girl from childhood in a town in the Central region until adulthood, facing the challenges of fate. The work received many positive reviews thanks to its romantic story, imbued with contemplation about love and maturity, although it has more intense details than other stories by Nguyen Nhat Anh. The first clumsiness of life developed into a deep love relationship, including "eating rice before the bell", the female protagonist became pregnant and had to be a single mother.

The film Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story was produced by HKFilm, CJ HK Entertainment and SATE. Director Trinh Dinh Le Minh was entrusted with the role of director (he previously directed Dear Mom, I'm Going (2019) and Invisible Evidence (2020), along with a series of documentaries and short films that caused a stir such as My Apartment, Where the Wind Goes, The Scent of Fish Sauce , and Disappearance at the Library...
Regarding the fact that some of Nguyen Nhat Anh's works were adapted into films with great resonance such as Mat Biec, Toi Thay Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh..., Trinh Dinh Le Minh said: "I do not feel pressured but more excited about the next film in my career. The film is a very gentle but also very intense story. I think every director when receiving a script has their own choices and ways of handling it based on the original work. I am confident that I will bring new feelings, atmosphere, a truly special cinematic experience in this adaptation."
The film crew is currently looking for actors to play the three main characters: Phuc, Vinh, and Mien in their childhood (around 12 years old) and adulthood (from 17 to 25 years old). The director has set the criteria to choose young faces with fresh acting.
