Micro modeling profession: Making money thanks to beautiful eyes and pretty lips...

Adjusting her lipstick color, Trang Lin (real name Dao Thu Trang, born in 2001) quickly finished the photoshoot. She is currently a well-known micro-model in Hanoi , specializing in testing hundreds of lipsticks and thousands of contact lenses. Thanks to this unique job, she earns a substantial extra income each month.

Trang Lin's journey into this profession began quite by chance. Initially, she enjoyed taking photos after completing makeup tutorials and sharing her beauty tips and knowledge on social media groups. Later, she received invitations to model for several cosmetic and contact lens brands. This gave her frequent opportunities to photograph lipstick and contact lens swatches.

Gradually discovering her passion for the work, Trang decided to pursue micro modeling through a freelance job. During the day, she worked at a technology company. After work, she worked on her own face.

Trang Lin defines her profession as follows: These are models who specialize in close-up photography, focusing on small details such as eyes, lips, hands, and ears… to promote products like cosmetics, jewelry, and accessories.

Their role is considered crucial in conveying product information to customers in a visual, vivid, and relatable way. Thanks to the sharp, attractive images from the micro-models, products will be more easily perceived and remembered by consumers.

"It might sound like a new profession, but micro modeling has actually been around abroad for a long time. In South Korea, models even have their own studios at home, with professional lighting and cameras costing hundreds of millions of won."

In Vietnam, a micro-model's income depends on many factors such as experience, product brand, the complexity of the photoshoot concept... On average, the income for a photoshoot can range from 500,000 to 2 million VND," she revealed.

The young woman added that this profession attracts young people because of its creativity and diversity. Thanks to being a micro-model, she has the opportunity to try out new photography ideas, discover new products, and showcase beautiful images.

Currently, the profession of micro modeling is becoming increasingly popular and attracting many young people to participate in diverse roles. Besides modeling for eyes and lips like Trang Lin, many young people model for hands, necks, and ears for jewelry brands.

Micro-models typically search for job information through social media, recruitment websites, or referrals from brands.

Compared to runway models or fashion models, micro-models typically move around less, are not under time pressure, and don't need to adhere to strict diets and exercise regimens. However, this profession requires models to have an attractive appearance, such as beautiful eyes, pretty lips, and straight teeth, as well as good photography skills, the ability to pose in diverse and creative ways, and a deep understanding of the product.

"I want my photos to be more unique, so I often use natural light as the main source. On days with unfavorable weather, such as rain or overcast skies, taking photos becomes more difficult," Trang said.

Making money is easy, but…

Trang Lin said she could earn income from this job quickly and easily. However, wearing and changing lenses so often during photoshoots caused her eyes to become dry, red, watery, and more sensitive. Previously, Trang limited herself to changing 3-4 pairs of lenses per photoshoot, while many other models with healthy eyes could wear up to 20 pairs of contact lenses in a single livestream.

There were many times when she tried lipsticks that were either too matte or too dry, leaving stains that were difficult to remove, causing her lips to swell up and bleed.

"Many times I thought about quitting this job, but brands kept messaging me, pleading with me to continue because it was so difficult to find models, so I kept going. I hope this work will become more widely known and that the market will no longer have a shortage of models," she said.

According to her, the most helpful advice for those who want to pursue this field is to build a professional personal image. In addition, young people need to develop their own style, share visually appealing images, interact regularly on social media, and provide engaging content to attract followers.
