Artist Le Duy tries his hand at the "big stage".

As a highly experienced artist of the Tay Do Cai Luong Troupe (now the Can Tho City Cultural and Arts Center), Le Duy achieved success with impressive roles and a series of prestigious awards and medals. Recently, fans were surprised to see him again on stage in Ho Chi Minh City in the role of Lo Dai Hai in the play "Loi Vu".

"Thunderstorm" is a classic work by playwright Cao Yu, translated into Vietnamese by Professor Dang Thai Mai and adapted into plays and cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) many times. For example, the spoken drama "Thunderstorm" directed by Hoa Ha at the Small Stage Theatre and the cải lương adaptation directed by Diep Lang at the 2/84 Troupe Theatre left a lasting impression on theater enthusiasts. Not long ago, the play was adapted into a television series titled "Thunderstorm in the Rain," which also became a cinematic phenomenon.

In their latest production of Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera), Vu Luan Entertainment has presented audiences with a meticulously crafted performance, featuring a fresh and captivating style. This play, "Loi Vu," was adapted into Cai Luong by author Quoc Khanh and directed by People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau. Instead of selecting artists based on the usual criteria of fame, veteran status, and audience popularity, Meritorious Artist Vu Luan and People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau chose a tailor-made approach, not hesitating to give opportunities to very young artists. Besides Meritorious Artist Vu Luan as Chu Phac Vien, the remaining artists are all young faces: Vo Ngoc Quyen (Phon Y), Bien Thuy (Lo Tu Phuong), Vuong Quan Tri (Chu Xung), Nguyen Van Hop (Chu Binh), Bich Tram (Thi Binh), Le Duy (Lo Dai Hai)...

"Thunderstorm" revolves around the conflicts within the Chu family, stemming from the love affair between the young master Chu Phac Vien and his maid, Thi Binh. When her second child was about to be born, Thi Binh was driven out of the Chu household. Overwhelmed with grief, she attempted suicide by jumping into a river but was rescued and cared for by Lu Quy, who gave birth to a son named Lu Dai Hai. Ironically, later, Lu Quy, Lu Dai Hai, and his half-sister all worked for the Chu family and became entangled in complicated love affairs.

In particular, the role of Lu Dai Hai, portrayed by artist Le Duy, is that of an upright miner who "dares to speak his mind," fights for justice, and deeply values ​​family. Tragically, the person he fights for justice and social equality turns out to be his own father. People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau chose Le Duy because he was a perfect fit for the role.

Le Duy did not disappoint, delivering a powerful and emotional performance as Lu Dai Hai. Despite the difficulties of traveling to Ho Chi Minh City for rehearsals, limited rehearsal time, and his busy work schedule in Can Tho City, Le Duy overcame the challenges and did his best in the role. “I am very happy to receive praise from everyone. Thanks to People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau and Meritorious Artist Vu Luan for giving me this opportunity, and the wholehearted support of the crew, I have another memorable role to add to my professional life,” Le Duy said.

Previously, Le Duy had tried his hand at playing the role of Tran Trung Ta in the play "To Hien Thanh's Trial," directed by Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat. He is also currently participating in a film project with a strong Southern Vietnamese flavor… These "major stages" have contributed to honing the image and talent of this young actor from Tay Do, making him shine even brighter on stage.

It is known that the play "Thunderstorm" will have many more performances to come, the next being the performance on the evening of June 20th at the Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theatre (146 Tran Hung Dao Street, Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
