Thinking from the “National Concerts”...

“On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, Nhan Dan Newspaper in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee solemnly organized the special political art program "Fatherland in the Heart" at My Dinh National Stadium, attracting more than 50,000 live audiences and millions of viewers through mass media", that is the content of the thank you letter from the program's Organizing Committee that has just been announced. Another vivid number proves the appeal of "Fatherland in the Heart": after only 9 minutes of opening, the program's online ticket registration portal recorded about 3 million visits and 20,000 successful registrations!

In another program, the music festival “V Concert - Radiant Vietnam” organized by Vietnam Television, 25,000 audiences immersed themselves with artists in a proud space through music . Following that, “episode 2” of V Concert was the music festival “V Fest - Radiant Youth” which also attracted tens of thousands of audiences.

In the near future, there will be many large-scale music festivals and art programs organized to celebrate National Day, September 2. All of them will spread strongly on social networks.

Up to now, many young people are still used to thinking that traditional music and political art programs will be “dry”. Of course, no one denies the meaning and traditional educational elements. But young people still like youthful, vibrant stages, in modern language now, “following the trend to the end”.

So, what has made the recent concerts so successful? The answer is that the organizers and producers have harmonized traditional and modern elements, between fostering national pride and "catching the trend" of youth. Watching "Fatherland in the Heart", which are still traditional songs, but the young artists performed them on an extremely modern stage, full of youthfulness, making everyone immersed in each melody. The image of tens of thousands of people singing the National Anthem together; standing up together, cheering for the 68 soldiers of the 1st Army Officer School, who once represented the Vietnam People's Army in the parade at Red Square (Moscow, Russia) on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Great Patriotic War (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2025)... Pride and the call to arms seem to echo in everyone's heart. As for “V Concert - Radiant Vietnam”, the program “catches the trend” of close-up views of the audience, becoming a trend of searching and using on most social networking platforms. Or the song “Bac Bling” is also popular, but the “swooshing” flying scene in the air by Tuan Cry makes many people excited. Those are the images that young people today often call “absolutely cinematic”.

From the success of the past “National Concerts” and thinking about the upcoming programs, we can see that the cultural industry is taking shape. At the same time, it also raises the issue for artists, especially traditional art programs that serve political tasks, that need to innovate, from equipment, technology, to thinking and artistic methods. Of course, the suitability and “fit” of innovation is something that needs to be considered.

As journalist Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper said: “We believe that music is the language of the soul, connecting generations, and is an effective way to tell the story of the country in a simple, honest, and profound way”. Or, to put it in the words of the youth, we hope that in the future, there will be many more “National Concerts” that are not only “absolutely cinematic” but also “absolutely proud”!
