The house is the result of love from the community. |
Dream of home come true
In the last days of July, the small house in the middle of Thanh Chu residential group, Huong An ward was filled with joy. The 60m2 single-storey house had just been completed, a meaningful gift for a woman after many years of living in a dilapidated, leaky house. In the house that still smelled of new paint, Ms. Loan was moved: “Before, every time it rained, I was restless, worried that the roof would fly off, the walls would collapse. Now that I have this house, I am very happy and extremely grateful.”
The house was built at a total cost of nearly 300 million VND, of which 70 million VND came from the “Loved Home Puzzle” program. This amount was donated through 700 puzzle pieces, each worth 100 thousand VND. Those small puzzle pieces came from the cooperation of the community, organizations, individuals, and philanthropists in the city.
Mr. Truong Quang Trung, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huong An Ward, said: “Ms. Loan’s family is in a particularly difficult situation. Through the support of the program, along with the attention of the government, organizations and people around, the house was completed in time before the rainy season. This is not only a place to live but also a support for the family to overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.”
Connecting love
The program “Lovely House Puzzles” was piloted by the Hue City Red Cross Society at the end of 2024, starting with the first house for Ms. Pham Thi Gai in Huong Van Ward (formerly Huong Tra Town). With the support of many organizations, individuals and philanthropists, the first house was completed from 700 loving puzzle pieces, equivalent to 70 million VND.
The success of the initial model has motivated the Association to continue implementing the program throughout the city. Since March 2025, the program has been widely launched with the goal of building 5 houses for poor households, near-poor households and policy families. Up to now, 3 houses have been formed from pieces of affection, including Mrs. Gai's house, Ms. Loan's house and the house under construction of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Doan in Phu Vang commune, which has received 117 pieces.
Sharing about this idea, Ms. Le Thi Hien, President of the Hue City Red Cross Society said: “We hope that everyone can contribute to supporting the poor in the most gentle way. With only 100,000 VND, everyone can contribute a piece of the puzzle. When 700 pieces are put together, it will become a solid roof, full of love.”
The program does not stop at building houses but also spreads the spirit of humanity and community solidarity. From ordinary workers, students, traders to businesses, everyone joins hands, each person a piece, writing a story of sharing without borders. Each completed house is a testament to the strength of solidarity, from a small initiative gradually becoming a typical humanitarian model of Hue City and is expected to be replicated in many other localities.
“Hue City still has many poor households and elderly people living alone in temporary houses, which are easily affected when storms come. We hope the program will continue to spread, so that no one is left behind,” Ms. Hien emphasized.
