Lewis Hall is considered an easy target for MU. |
Manchester United are preparing to enter their first summer transfer window under Michael Carrick's official tenure after securing their return to the Champions League by finishing third in the 2025/26 Premier League.
One of the positions that worries the Manchester United coaching staff the most is the left flank of the defense.
Luke Shaw has just had a rare season maintaining consistent fitness, starting every Premier League game. However, the English defender is now 30 years old and has a history of recurring injuries.
With a packed schedule for next season, Manchester United's management understands they need another quality left-back to share the workload with Shaw. According to several sources in England, Lewis Hall of Newcastle is currently the number one target at Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old defender is considered one of the brightest young talents in English football today. Director of Football Jason Wilcox is reportedly a big admirer of Hall and is pushing Manchester United to seriously pursue a deal for him.
Lewis Hall came through the Chelsea academy before joining Newcastle. Last season, he started 24 Premier League games and impressed with his all-around attacking and defensive abilities.
MU believes Hall fits into Carrick's youth-focused squad. With Tyrell Malacia likely to leave the club and Patrick Dorgu more suited to an attacking role, Hall is seen as the ideal fit for the new system.
Despite having three years left on his contract with Newcastle, the defender's future is reportedly no longer as certain as it once was.
Notably, neither Hall nor Luke Shaw were included in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
However, that hasn't diminished Hall's appeal in the transfer market, especially as MU are looking to rebuild their defense in the post-Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim era.
