At 3:30 AM on February 16th, hundreds of local residents and traders flocked to Cua Sot Fishing Port - the largest fishing port in Ha Tinh province (Thach Kim commune, Loc Ha district) - to await the return of ships and boats.

In the darkness of night, boats and ships dock at the harbor, their holds overflowing with various kinds of seafood such as squid, snails, crabs, shrimp, and fish. Fishermen hastily use trays to transport this "gift from nature" ashore.

Up on the shore, traders and locals haggled over prices. The sounds of lively conversation and laughter echoed throughout the harbor, even before sunrise.

Fisherman Nguyen Danh Hung (45 years old, residing in Thach Kim commune) said that his 105CV boat, along with 12 crew members, set sail about 6-7 nautical miles from shore the previous evening (February 15th). After a night of fishing, the boat caught a bountiful 600 kg of scad fish.

"This is our third trip since the Lunar New Year. So far, the boat has earned nearly 100 million VND, and everyone is excited after these first voyages of the year," said Hung.

While strolling around the harbor, Mr. Pham Duc Xuan (32 years old, residing in Tan Lam Huong commune, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province) selected and bought 3kg of grouper (scad), 2kg of crab, and 2kg of squid.

"I woke up early to come here to buy seafood to share with relatives and friends. The seafood bought at the port is very fresh. After the Lunar New Year holidays, everyone is tired of meat, so they will really enjoy these fish, crab, and squid dishes," Mr. Xuan said happily.

In Ky Ninh commune (Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province), these days, fishing boats of local fishermen are heading out to sea in a continuous stream. After each night, many boats bring back 5-10 tons of anchovies and other small fish. After deducting expenses, each boat earns 20-50 million VND.

According to many fishermen, the favorable weather following the Lunar New Year holiday, after a period of rough seas, has helped them earn a substantial income. This is a positive sign for the new year.
