At 3:30 a.m. on February 16, hundreds of people and traders flocked to Cua Sot Fishing Port - the largest fishing port in Ha Tinh (Thach Kim commune, Loc Ha district) to wait for ships and boats to return.

In the dark, ships and boats arrive at the port one after another with holds full of seafood such as squid, snails, crabs, shrimp, and fish. Fishermen hurriedly use trays to transport the "heavenly bounty" to shore.

On the shore, merchants and locals were bargaining for prices. The sounds of conversation and laughter echoed throughout the harbor, even though the sun had not yet risen.

Fisherman Nguyen Danh Hung (45 years old, resident of Thach Kim commune) said that his 105CV boat and 12 other boats set sail about 6-7 nautical miles from shore the night before (February 15). After a night of fishing, the boat caught a big haul of 600 kg of croaker.

"This is our third trip since Tet. So far, the ship has earned nearly 100 million VND. Everyone is excited after the first trips of the year," said Mr. Hung.

Walking around the port, Mr. Pham Duc Xuan (32 years old, resident of Tan Lam Huong commune, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh) chose to buy 3kg of catfish, 2kg of crab and 2kg of squid.

"I wake up early to come here to buy seafood to invite relatives and friends to enjoy. The seafood bought at the port is very fresh. After Tet, everyone is tired of meat, so everyone will love these fish, crab, and squid dishes," Mr. Xuan happily said.

In Ky Ninh commune (Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh), these days, fishing boats of local fishermen also follow each other to sea. After each night, many boats bring in 5-10 tons of anchovies and bream. After deducting expenses, each boat earns 20-50 million VND.

According to many fishermen, the favorable weather after the Lunar New Year holiday has helped them earn a large income. This is a good sign for the new year.
