In the last months of the year, taking advantage of the sunny weather, the Co Tu people in Dong Giang, Tay Giang, Nam Giang districts, and other areas help each other harvest the rice crop in the fields and on the mountain slopes. The rice harvest depends on the cultivated area, so it can take a day or last longer.

According to Mr. Pơloong Plênh, Deputy Head of the Culture and Information Department of Tây Giang District, depending on the size of the village, the harvest festival is organized by individual households, clans, or the entire village community. This is considered a major festival, signifying gratitude to the gods and prayers for a bountiful harvest in the coming year, favorable weather, and prosperity for all families.

"The New Rice Festival usually takes place in a warm, harvest-day atmosphere. Before the festival, the Co Tu people often go to the fields to offer prayers and report to the spirits. Afterwards, they harvest a small area and bring it home to prepare a feast of new rice offerings and invite villagers to share in the joy," shared Mr. Pơloong Plênh.
