After winning the lottery, a man in Phimai bought a gold necklace for his two-tailed gecko.
Jane Chantakui, a 42-year-old construction contractor, was working at a client’s home on May 20 when he spotted a two-tailed gecko. He said he was startled by the gecko’s unusual appearance, but he considered the incident a good omen.
Jane brought the gecko to the homeowner and was allowed to take the gecko home. He kept and cared for the gecko as a pet.
“At that time, I believed that meeting this gecko would bring something good and felt that it could bring luck and fortune to the family. So, I decided to bring it home and raise it for good luck,” said Jane.
By the end of the week, Jane won the final two-digit prize in the government lottery. The number was announced as 42. He bought 14 lottery tickets, each worth 2,000 Baht (more than 1.3 million VND).
Last year, a study by a statistician at Thammasat University found that the odds of winning 2,000 Baht from the final prize were 1 in 100.
Believing that his two-tailed gecko had won the lottery, Jane immediately bought a small gold necklace, about 5,100 Baht, as a gift for his "lucky pet".
“I always thought that my lottery win was thanks to my lucky gecko. I will take good care of it and hope it will bring me luck again in the next lottery results announcement on June 16,” Jane shared.
