Vietnamese traditional clothing is becoming a part of young people's lives.
At the "Hundred Flowers Walking Parade" held around Hoan Kiem Lake earlier this year, hundreds of young people in traditional Vietnamese costumes created a colorful cultural space in the heart of the capital. Groups of people in Vietnamese attire parading on the pedestrian streets attracted the attention of many locals and tourists. This image is now a familiar sight around Hoan Kiem Lake, the Temple of Literature, and Thang Long Imperial Citadel.
From primarily appearing in artistic photo shoots or stage performances, traditional Vietnamese clothing is gradually becoming more natural in everyday life. Many young people choose to wear Vietnamese clothing when visiting historical sites, participating in cultural workshops and traditional festivals, or creating memorable photos that reflect their national identity.

According to Nguyen Duc Loc, a member of the Dai Viet Co Phong community, the reason more and more young people are turning to Vietnamese traditional clothing is not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its need to connect with national history. While many previously considered traditional clothing only suitable for research or theatrical performances, young people are now actively incorporating it into their daily lives in more accessible ways. “When wearing Vietnamese traditional clothing, many young people become curious about history, about the dynasties, and about traditional culture. From the clothing itself, they gradually become more interested in the cultural values of the nation,” Loc shared.
Cultural researcher Trinh Bach once remarked that the growing interest of young people in Vietnamese traditional clothing is a positive sign in the revival of traditional cultural values. According to him, clothing is not only an aesthetic element but also reflects the history, lifestyle, and spirit of each stage of the nation's development. Young people actively learning about and wearing Vietnamese traditional clothing in modern life contributes to giving traditional culture a chance to "come back to life" in a more natural way, instead of just existing in books or museums.
From learning history to experiencing culture.
The resurgence of traditional Vietnamese clothing in the lives of young people reflects the growing need to reconnect with national cultural identity in modern society. Instead of approaching history through dry lessons, many young people choose to explore culture through fashion , art, and real-life experiences. According to those who love traditional Vietnamese clothing, the appeal lies in the fact that each garment carries its own historical story and cultural value. When wearing a five-panel or a one-piece dress, the wearer not only experiences the beauty of the attire but also feels a stronger connection to national tradition.

Along with the growing popularity of traditional Vietnamese clothing among the community, many diverse activities showcasing traditional culture are being organized to bring Vietnamese traditional attire closer to young people. Workshops exploring traditional clothing, photography sessions at historical sites, and art performances incorporating traditional costumes attract a large number of students.
Designer Le Thi Thuy Dung, Director of KIA HORSE International Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, shared: "As a partner in many Vietnamese traditional costume and art performances, KIA HORSE International Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company has collaborated on numerous art programs featuring traditional Vietnamese ao dai and costumes in modern settings, contributing to bringing the image of traditional clothing closer to young audiences. When traditional culture is expressed through accessible artistic language, young people will find it easier to accept. The important thing is not just showcasing the costumes, but also helping the audience feel the cultural depth behind each Vietnamese costume," she shared.
While not all current activities related to Vietnamese traditional clothing involve in-depth research, the growing interest of young people is contributing to expanding the space for traditional culture in contemporary life. From strolls in traditional attire to cultural experiences, Vietnamese clothing is gradually becoming a bridge for young people to learn about history, nurture their love for national culture, and rediscover their Vietnamese identity in a more intimate and natural way.
