According to an agreement between Jalux, a trading company belonging to the JAL Group, and the private space company ispace, the ARGO project, which transports heritage to the Moon, will allow businesses, local governments, and organizations to register to send items such as regional specialties, representative products, or cultural artifacts to the Moon for long-term preservation.

If successful, as reported by the Straits Times on May 28, this would be the world's first cargo delivery service to the Moon operated by an airline.

The first delivery is expected to take place in 2028 using a lunar lander developed by ispace.

The items will be placed in special storage containers designed to withstand the harsh environment on the Moon.

Each box measures approximately 20cm x 20cm and is 10cm high, containing multiple compartments to hold different artifacts.

JAL will be responsible for developing these containers as well as receiving customer registrations.

According to the project participants, the goal is to create an "extraterrestrial archive" that will help preserve cultural and historical values for future generations.

A JAL representative said the idea is like a "modern-day Noah's Ark," where items of special significance are sent to the Moon to protect against the increasing risks on our planet.

The project reflects the rapid development of Japan's space economy , amid declining rocket launch costs and the growing number of businesses outside the aerospace sector seeking new ventures.

Experts believe that more and more companies want to leverage existing technology to enter the expanding space market.

However, experts also note that space transportation and tourism activities are still expensive. For space-related services to become more widespread in the future, the industry needs to continue improving safety and significantly reducing operating costs.

With its pioneering plan to send "Earth's heritage" to the Moon, JAL expects to become one of the leading companies in Japan's commercial space transport sector.
