Nguyen Huy Hoang won the Asian Swimming Gold Medal for the second time.

On the evening of October 1, Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang won the Gold Medal in the men's 800m freestyle event, his second Gold Medal at the 2025 Asian Aquatics Championships held in Ahmedabad (India) from September 28 to October 2.

These are also Huy Hoang's first two Gold Medals on the Asian green track.

Starting in lane 5 with strong opponents from China, Uzbekistan, Japan, Malaysia, Huy Hoang quickly took the lead. In the first 100m, the opponents were chasing closely, but from 400m onwards, the Vietnamese athlete gradually accelerated. He maintained the speed as well as the gap with the second-placed Uzbekistan athlete Sibirtsev in the last 100m and finished with a time of 7 minutes 57 seconds 58, 3 seconds 34 more than Sibirtsev, thereby winning the Gold Medal.

This is Huy Hoang's second Gold Medal at this tournament, and also his first two Asian Gold Medals in his career. Previously, in the men's 1,500m freestyle swimming event, the 25-year-old Vietnamese athlete finished first with a time of 15 minutes 15.01 seconds.

The best achievement Huy Hoang has achieved at the continental level is the Silver Medal of the 2018 ASIAD, also in his specialty, the 1,500m freestyle for men. Also in that year, the "swimmer" from Quang Binh (now Quang Tri) won the Gold Medal in the 800m freestyle for men at the 2012 Youth Olympics.
