(CPV) - Athlete Nguyen Thi That has made history in Vietnamese sports as the first cyclist to win a ticket to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
On June 13, the Vietnam Cycling and Motor Sports Federation confirmed that athlete Nguyen Thi That won the right to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Previously, on June 12, racer Nguyen Thi That won the Gold Medal in the women's mass start category of the 2023 Asian Road Cycling Championship held in Thailand. She had a spectacular sprint against fierce competition from Chinese racers at the top in the final meters near the finish line.
It is known that the International Cycling Union (UCI) has not yet confirmed the cases of winning places to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, according to international referees of the UCI, Nguyen Thi That has officially won the right to attend the Olympics.
Thus, Nguyen Thi That will be the first Vietnamese athlete to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the same time, she will also be the first racer in the history of Vietnamese road cycling to participate in an Olympic Games. The next goal of the female cyclist from An Giang is to win a Gold Medal at the upcoming ASIAD in Hangzhou (China).
Nguyen Thi That was born in 1993 but has been a cyclist for 14 years. She is the golden face of the Vietnamese sport cycling community with remarkable achievements.
In the rankings of the International Cycling Union (UCI), Nguyen Thi That is in the top 40, and is the highest ranked Asian athlete to date./.
