This is the conclusion drawn based on accommodation search data on the prestigious online travel platform Agoda. Japan's capital Tokyo - the city that held the number 1 position last year - has dropped to second place on the rankings to make way for the coastal city of Nha Trang.
Besides the above two locations, the top 5 most popular destinations for Korean tourists this year also include Fukuoka, Osaka (Japan) and Da Nang (Vietnam).
Agoda believes that Vietnam and Japan will continue to be the top choices for Korean travelers in the first half of 2025. In the context of rising travel costs, short-distance destinations with affordable prices are popular.
To increase the attraction of Nha Trang, from June 1, Vietnam Airlines officially launched a direct flight between Busan and Nha Trang with a frequency of 1 flight/day. This is the second flight route of Vietnam Airlines connecting Korea with Nha Trang, in addition to the Seoul - Nha Trang route which is operating effectively. This has contributed significantly to making Nha Trang a top destination for Korean tourists.
According to Agoda data, searches for Chinese cities such as Qingdao and Shanghai have also increased by an impressive 212% and 207%, respectively. This shows that China's policy of temporarily exempting Korean citizens from visas from November 2024 has been very effective.
As for destinations within Korea, Jeju Island remains the most searched, followed by Seoul, Busan, Sokcho, and Gangneung. Sokcho and Gangneung in particular are emerging as attractive summer vacation options thanks to the opening of the Donghae train line late last year, which has significantly improved transportation accessibility.
