At 1 PM local time on October 6th (6 PM Vietnam time), the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Norwegian writer and playwright Jon Fosse for his innovative plays and prose.
"His monumental work, written in Norwegian and spanning many genres, includes numerous plays, novels, poetry collections, essays, children's books, and translations. Today, he is one of the most widely performed playwrights in the world . He is also increasingly recognized in the field of prose," the Nobel Committee's announcement stated.

Jon Fosse is a major figure in Nordic literature, famous for his works such as Andvake, Olavs draumar, and Kveldsvævd. Besides writing books, he was also a translator and playwright with around 40 works to his credit.
The Nobel Committee praised Jon Fosse's literary style, known as "Fosse minimalism."
Writer Jon Fosse will receive a prize of 11 million Swedish krona (approximately $991,000).
The Nobel Prize in Literature is one of six categories of the Nobel Prize, awarded to authors from any country, according to the will of chemist Alfred Nobel. The Swedish Academy selects the winner.
Since last November, thousands of letters from around the world have been sent to the Swedish Academy nominating deserving authors for the most prestigious award in literature.
Only qualified individuals can submit nominations, including members of the Swedish Academy, academies, organizations, and associations with similar structures and principles; professors of literature and linguistics at universities and colleges; former Nobel Prize winners in Literature; and presidents of writers' organizations representing each literary tradition.
