Billionaire musician talks about song being "bargained" for 2 million VND

Although he has earned billions from copyrighting a series of "hit" songs, this musician still remembers the early stages of his career when his songs were "bargained" and discounted.

In a conversation with Lao Dong reporters, musician Nguyen Van Chung talked about his journey with many ups and downs in music. He is the author of a series of famous hits such as: Crying Moon, Rainy Road, Warm Wind Scarf, Mother's Diary...

Most recently, the song "Warm Wind Scarf" by Nguyen Van Chung was used by MC Thanh Trung in the program "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai". The song "Nhat ky cua me" is considered a "heart song" of many generations of Vietnamese audiences, the song is especially listened to a lot on October 20 - Vietnamese Women's Day.

Musician Nguyen Van Chung shared that he has a stable income from royalties. If in 2016, he only received about 9 million VND, now he receives 1.2 - 1.5 billion VND in royalties each year.

"Mother's Diary", "Warm Wind Scarf" and "Rainy Road" are the most successful songs, bringing a stable source of copyright income for musician Nguyen Van Chung.

He revealed that a dance center in Germany paid $5,000 for the copyright of "Con duong mua" to use this song in a competition.

However, in the early days of composing, musician Nguyen Van Chung sent "Con duong mua" to a company, they "bargained" to reduce the price of this song from 3 million VND to 2 million VND. The musician decided not to sell it.

Looking back on his journey of many ups and downs with music, musician Nguyen Van Chung said: "I think everyone will have a difficult and challenging early stage in their career. It is the difficulties and challenges that will help us train our patience, not be afraid of difficulties, and overcome to continue our journey of passion. Looking back on what we have gone through, I thank and appreciate everything. It was only through those difficult days that I became who I am today."

The song "Con duong mua" was later performed by singer Cao Thai Son and became a hit.

Currently, musician Nguyen Van Chung has many compositions in many genres, with many different audiences, from children's music to youth music. He has many plans for the future, but according to the musician, "music cannot be rushed, and cannot be predicted."
