(Continued and end)
Currently, there are more units and organizations applying green living models to improve the quality of life. Every small action or seemingly simple initiative, when receiving response from everyone, will contribute to making the environment cleaner and greener in harsh weather.
Benefit from “greening” common spaces
True to its name, Cong Vi communal house (Cong Vi ward, Ba Dinh) still retains the characteristics of a rural village with a cool, fresh green space that is rare in the heart of Hanoi . Not far from the village gate is Cong Vi communal house, which is considered the "green heart" of the village. In front of the communal house yard, tall, green trees with wide-spreading foliage cover the entire communal house grounds and surrounding areas, because they are always carefully cared for by the communal house management board. The ward's Women's Union also took advantage of the vacant land, previously occupied as a car park, to plant many peonies, peace lilies, ornamental plants, etc., creating a "Blooming Road", changing the appearance of the road leading to the village. Since the "Blooming Road" was established, every day the Women's Union has divided the cleaning, watering, and regularly pruning the trees. Through the skillful and careful hands of the women, the tree path is always green and blooming with fragrant flowers.
Ms. Hoang Xuan, Vice President of Cong Vi Village Women's Association, proudly said: "To have a campus like this is thanks to the awareness of the people, organizations, women's associations and veterans' associations working together to create it. Living here is a happy thing for me because I live next to the communal house land, have a fresh space and the awareness of the people is extremely good."
The local playground is built in a green space for people to conveniently organize many activities to improve their health. In addition to the green common living space, many families also plant trees in front of their gates and doors along the roads and alleys. The way Cong Vi ward assigns specific tasks to each unit and individual and launches many movements, actively mobilizing people to participate has helped the common space to always be green and fresh, the village roads to always be clean, and people's awareness to be constantly raised. Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy, a resident of Cong Vi village, shared: "Here, everyone has worked together to create a green, fresh and beautiful space. There are trees, fish ponds, and flower gardens to create an airy common space. Children have a place to play, people have space to relax and exercise. Living in a green-clean-beautiful space, everyone must be self-conscious, always reminding each other to maintain public hygiene."
Come suggest "green service"
Not only creating green spaces for living places, many businesses have also made positive changes in the way they design their shop spaces, improving and changing business equipment to create a "green service" space, reducing heat and limiting plastic waste to the environment. A typical example is Tree Ami Garden - currently with 3 locations in Hanoi - a cafe with a unique design, completely different from regular cafes. The people who built the shop were inspired by the close-to-nature life of people on Jeju Island (Korea) to use entirely eucalyptus and pallet wood, then covered the shop with climbing plants, marigolds and cogon grass. Thanks to that, it has created a cool space, in harmony with nature.
In addition, the space of the shop is also designed to be open, without partitions so that natural wind can flow into every corner. In the middle of the shop is an artificial lake that helps regulate the surrounding air. Items in the shop such as water cups and straws are made entirely of paper. Mr. Dang Binh, owner of the TreeAmi Garden cafe chain, shared: “I want to build a cafe using materials close to nature, away from concrete models, greenhouses, but easy to structure, not dependent on the skills of workers to reduce investment costs. So TreeAmi Garden is designed entirely from round tree trunks and let climbing plants wrap around the tree trunks, which will help the tree regenerate. The whole ecosystem is blended together to create a cool green environment.”
However, the cafe was built entirely of wood, so it was difficult to avoid termites. Therefore, after 2 years, the cafe changed its appearance with a different design. Thanks to that, it not only effectively resisted the heat but also brought a new experience to customers.

And raise awareness
In order to raise people's concern in preventing and combating pollution and extreme weather, recently, a group of students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture organized a photo contest "Pieces that make extraordinary things" with the message "One personal item, reduce hundreds of plastic waste".
Based on the group's observations, the use of disposable plastic products has increased the amount of waste released into the environment. This situation is common in the student community. The group launched a contest on Facebook, calling on people to use personal items instead of disposable plastic products. With a familiar theme, close to student life, the contest quickly attracted many young people to participate in sharing their personal stories with meaningful messages about environmental protection. The program had more than 400 followers, more than 2,200 interactions on the total number of posts. Many entries were posted and widely shared on the internet, effectively propagating to the community, creating positive changes in awareness, thereby reducing plastic waste released into the environment.
Mr. Tran Chieu Phung, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Hanoi University of Culture said: “In addition to “Green Sunday”, the Youth Union also promotes electricity saving, promotes the construction of many good and practical models to protect the environment and fight against the heat. In the near future, the Youth Union will strengthen cooperation with units and localities to make the implementation more effective”.
Le Thanh Phu, Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest, excitedly shared: “Our group is very happy that the project was successful beyond expectations and spread widely in the student community, attracting a lot of interactions and support from all ages. We hope that each post and share of the article is a small piece, from many small pieces will create extraordinary things to help protect the living environment from the invasion of plastic waste”.
Responding to the movement launched by the Hanoi Youth Union, the Youth Union of Hanoi University of Culture has also actively implemented "Green Sunday" with many activities to clean up school spaces and public places. "Green Sunday" does not only stop at responding to the movement but is maintained and becomes a regular activity of the School Youth Union. In the past time, regularly every 2 weeks, "Green Sunday" has taken place enthusiastically and excitingly with many activities such as: Cleaning and sanitizing school grounds, cleaning up trash on the streets, at public places, taking care of trees, cleaning flyers stuck on walls, electric poles, etc.
Currently, there are more units and organizations applying green living models to improve the quality of life such as: Architect Chu Kim Duc and his colleagues have implemented many projects to turn spontaneous landfills into playgrounds for children; the Green Connection Space cafe is decorated with lots of trees and uses environmentally friendly recycled materials; the non-profit environmental protection organization Green Life regularly organizes events to collect garbage in exchange for gifts and sort it to send to waste treatment and recycling units... Every small action or seemingly simple initiative when receiving support from everyone will contribute to improving the quality of life.
