Fostering a love of reading among students.

In today's information-rich era, visual and auditory culture is gradually overshadowing reading culture. To help students access books and discover many good books, the Provincial Library has recently organized mobile library trips to schools. Many schools have also adopted creative approaches to spread a love of reading among their students.

Reading Day for students of Thuy Binh Primary and Secondary School (Thai Thuy).

One day in April, teachers and students of Thuy Binh Primary and Secondary School (Thai Thuy district) eagerly awaited the mobile library vehicle on its journey to bring the light of knowledge to teachers and students. Under the guidance of provincial library staff, the students were delighted to freely choose their favorite books. To serve the students' reading needs, in addition to science , technology, entertainment, and fiction books, the mobile library vehicle was also equipped with computers, projectors, and televisions to facilitate internet access and access to information technology with a rich collection of digital resources. Not only did they get to read books, but during this trip, the students also participated in storytelling based on books and games related to the stories in the books. Pham Thuy Duong, a student in class 9B, shared: "Every time the school and the provincial library organize a reading festival, my friends and I are guided on how to choose and read books." The types of books that teachers often recommend reading are books on history, life sciences, family relationships, and life skills. Through this beneficial reading festival, I learned how to choose appropriate books, read effectively, and apply the advice from them, which positively supports my studies and personal development.

The operation of mobile library vehicles is an effective way to bring knowledge to students, creating a new space that encourages them to enjoy reading and develop effective reading skills. Ms. Duong Thi Nguyet, Principal of Thuy Binh Primary and Secondary School, said that the school regularly collaborates with the Provincial Library to organize reading sessions, book study sessions, and book presentation competitions to spread a love of reading and promote reading among students. In addition to traditional books, teachers actively introduce students to new book genres such as e-books and audiobooks to encourage them to explore new knowledge and adapt to information technology, meeting the learning requirements of the educational reform program.

Each school has its own way of fostering a love of reading among students. At Tan Hoa Primary School (Vu Thu district), every Wednesday morning, the school dedicates the first 30 minutes of class to students reading and retelling stories from books. This activity, maintained for many years, has formed a habit and passion for reading among students. To further encourage their love of reading, the school has invested in an open, friendly library that harmonizes with nature, allowing students to easily access and choose books that suit their needs, enabling them to read as soon as they arrive at school, during recess, and after school. In addition to the school library, each classroom also has a bookshelf donated by students and parents. Besides in-class reading sessions, students can also register to borrow books and stories to take home. To attract students to the library, the school actively adds new books, organizes the "Donate a small book, read a thousand great books" campaign, and also promotes and introduces new books weekly through the "One Book a Week" program to teachers and students.

Ms. Lai Thi Khanh Van, Deputy Principal of Tan Hoa Primary School, said that practical activities have fostered a reading habit among students, leading to an increasing number of library visits and book borrowings. Students not only read stories but also proactively explore other types of books on natural science, the world , and the universe. As a result, the quality of subjects has improved significantly, especially Vietnamese language, science, history, and geography. Library activities have created a reading movement, developed a reading culture within the school, helped students gain knowledge, and honed their reading, memorization, and thinking skills, contributing positively to improving the overall quality of education.

Promoting a reading culture in the community is a key task that the Provincial Library is striving to achieve. Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Director of the Provincial Library, stated: In recent years, in addition to serving readers on-site, the Provincial Library has actively innovated its service activities, not only bringing books to schools but also coordinating and organizing reading festivals, storytelling based on books, and book exploration programs... attracting teachers, students, and parents to participate. In the future, not stopping at the school level, the Provincial Library will strengthen the organization of mobile library trips to localities, especially remote communes, creating opportunities for people to access traditional and modern book formats such as e-books and audiobooks, contributing to improving reading skills and gradually developing a reading culture in the community, contributing to building a knowledge-based community to meet the demands of the current Industrial Revolution 4.0.
