At 2 PM on June 1st, Tropical Storm Jangmi was located approximately 110 km south-southwest of Naha City in Okinawa Prefecture. The storm is moving northward, approaching Okinawa and the Amami Islands from June 1st to 2nd, and is continuing to intensify.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Jangmi formed within a region of strong monsoon activity over the Philippine Sea, creating favorable conditions for the typhoon to intensify.
Japanese authorities are advising residents to proactively take precautions against natural disasters as Typhoon Jangmi brings strong winds and heavy rain, increasing the risk of flooding, landslides, and high waves at sea. As of the morning of June 1st, the typhoon was moving at a speed of approximately 16 km/h, with sustained winds near the center exceeding 100 km/h, while gusts could reach around 160 km/h.
The storm's impact led to numerous flight cancellations and disrupted transportation throughout Okinawa Prefecture. Bus, rail, and ferry services were suspended. More than 7,000 households in Okinawa were reported without power.
Forecasts indicate that by June 3rd, Typhoon Jangmi will gradually shift eastward and move across Japan, bringing heavy rain to many areas in western and eastern Japan, as well as along the Pacific coast.
