According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, from May 24th to the present, the midland and lowland areas of Northern Vietnam (including Hanoi ), and the central region from Thanh Hoa to Hue City have experienced intense and exceptionally intense heatwaves, with daily maximum temperatures reaching 38-40 degrees Celsius, and in some localized areas exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

Some places experienced record-breaking temperatures for May, such as at Uong Bi station ( Quang Ninh province ) on May 25th, where the highest daily temperature recorded was 38 degrees Celsius - surpassing the historical record of 37.5 degrees Celsius set on May 16th, 2013.
In Bac Ninh province, the highest temperature recorded in the day was 39.7°C at Hiep Hoa station - exceeding the historical record of 39°C on May 19, 2019; at Bac Giang station, it was 39.4°C - exceeding the historical record of 39.1°C on May 21, 2020; and at Bac Ninh station, it was 40.5°C - equaling the historical record recorded on May 21, 2020.
The Hai Duong weather station (Hai Phong City) recorded a temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius - the same as the record temperature recorded on May 21, 2020.
In Hanoi, the capital city and one of the epicenters of this heatwave, the highest daily temperatures frequently reach 39-40 degrees Celsius.
According to statistics, the Ha Dong weather station once recorded the highest temperature in May at 41.3 degrees Celsius (in 2019). The 41.1 degrees Celsius recorded on May 26th this year is the second highest temperature in history.
Hanoi is one of the hotspots of the current heatwave due to the combined effects of the hot low-pressure area and the Foehn wind, as well as the urban heat island effect. With its high density of concrete buildings, the recorded temperatures in Hanoi are consistently 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than in neighboring areas.

Forecasts indicate that this afternoon (May 27th), the Northern Delta region, Phu Tho province, and the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue City will continue to experience intense and exceptionally intense heat. The highest daily temperatures will generally range from 38-40 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 40 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity will generally be between 40-45%.
Other areas in Northern Vietnam and the South Central coastal region are experiencing intense heat, with some places experiencing exceptionally severe heat, with maximum temperatures commonly ranging from 37-39 degrees Celsius, and some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity is commonly between 45-50%.
By May 28th, forecasts indicate that a weak, cool air mass moving southward from mainland China will cause the hot, low-pressure area in the west to weaken.
The forecast indicates that the heatwave in Northern Vietnam will be narrowed down to the midland and lowland areas of the North, with maximum temperatures commonly ranging from 35-37 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 37 degrees Celsius in some places; the lowest relative humidity will commonly be between 50-55%.
From May 29th onwards, the widespread heatwave is likely to end in Northern Vietnam, while the heatwave in Central Vietnam will gradually subside.
Note: The temperature forecast in heatwave reports and the actual perceived outdoor temperature may differ by 2-4 degrees Celsius, or even more, depending on surface conditions such as concrete, asphalt, etc.
