Faced with that situation, Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI) has proactively focused on implementing synchronous solutions with the highest spirit and effort to ensure electricity supply to serve people and businesses.

Increased demand for electricity
Electricity demand for socio -economic development, especially in large cities like Hanoi, is always high. Especially in the summer, extreme heat lasts for a long time with high temperatures, posing a risk of local power shortages from May to July. In the face of extreme weather developments, EVNHANOI has proactively developed scenarios and plans to ensure power supply for 2025.
To proactively respond to possible situations, ensuring safe and continuous power supply with the highest capacity in all situations for Hanoi's power grid in the summer of 2025, the Hanoi Power System Control Center has developed two scenarios to forecast maximum capacity growth (Pmax) for the entire city, including a base growth of 8% and the most extreme load growth of 12%.
In addition, power companies have calculated operating plans for each specific month in 2025, especially for the peak months of the hot season. EVNHANOI has also proactively accelerated the implementation of grid infrastructure investment projects to ensure safe and stable power supply; enhanced the application of technology in management, contributing to ensuring safe and reliable operation of the power system.
In fact, according to statistics in the first 3 months of 2025, the amount of electricity saved by residential customers in the city reached 56,588,966 kWh, a decrease of 10,164,492 kWh compared to the same period in 2024 (66,753,458 kWh), a reduction rate equivalent to about 15.2%. This is an encouraging result from programs to encourage efficient use of electricity and demonstrates the participation of people in adjusting their reasonable electricity consumption habits.
However, since the beginning of April, the electricity consumption of households has been increasing rapidly. The main reason is that the weather has turned hot and sunny, with higher temperatures causing people to use air conditioners and cooling devices more frequently and for longer periods of time during the day.
In addition, during peak hours, many families use many high-capacity appliances such as induction cookers, washing machines, and water heaters at the same time, putting great pressure on the electrical system and leading to a sudden increase in bills.
Many measures to reduce electricity bills
According to EVNHANOI's monitoring, the peak load of Hanoi's power system falls between 12-15h and 22-24h every day, especially during hot months. EVNHANOI has worked specifically with industrial production and commercial service customers with large electricity consumption output on the daily electricity load chart and high electricity consumption from April to July in recent years to advise and evaluate electricity usage and the possibility of shifting production time frames.
Accordingly, customers are recommended to adjust their daily production plans during peak months, in order to shift their daily electricity usage to suitable time frames to ensure production and contribute to reducing the overall load demand of the system. The electricity load adjustment program has been highly effective in practice.
Lotte Building (54 Lieu Giai Street, Ba Dinh District) has 65 floors above ground and 5 basements, including a complex of shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, and serviced apartments, always having a large monthly electricity consumption of about 2.5-2.7 million kWh. Especially during the hottest months, the electricity consumption reaches 3.5-3.7 million kWh.
According to Mr. Pham Minh Duc, the building's management representative, Lotte pays billions of dong in electricity bills every month. However, since 2019, thanks to participating in the electricity load adjustment program, the unit has reduced 25-30% of the building's total electricity consumption, thereby saving nearly 15% of electricity bills, equivalent to about 15 billion dong. During peak hot days, Lotte also committed to being ready to use backup generators to reduce pressure on the city's power grid, when required.
Mobilizing people to stand side by side with the Electricity sector, propaganda work on electricity saving and efficient electricity use has also been widely deployed by EVNHANOI to all customer groups in administrative units, public offices, office buildings, hospitals, schools; public lighting systems, advertising lights, outdoor decorations, traffic lighting; commercial and service customers, supermarkets, commercial centers; production customers, management boards of industrial zones, clusters, and points and households using electricity.
To help people be more proactive in controlling their electricity consumption and limit the "escalating" of electricity bills, especially in the context of electricity prices being adjusted to increase by 4.8% from May 10, EVNHANOI recommends that customers, offices, and production facilities join hands to use electricity economically and effectively, turn off unnecessary electrical equipment, and limit the use of high-capacity equipment during peak hours.
Customers should also limit the use of many electrical appliances at the same time and prioritize the use of energy-saving devices, such as products with high-efficiency energy labels (energy stars), switching to LED bulbs, etc.
