"The port joyfully welcomes countless shipments..."

According to Bui Nguyen Khoi, Director of the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, in the first six months of 2025, the number of ships arriving at Hai Phong port reached 8,875, an increase of 625 compared to the same period last year. Consequently, the volume of goods handled at the port increased. Specifically, Hai Phong port handled 56.1 million tons of goods, compared to only 44.5 million tons during the same period in 2024. This is an impressive growth figure given the difficulties faced by global and domestic freight transport due to disruptions in the global supply chain and tariff policies.

High cargo growth rates continue to be recorded at Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Port (TC-HICT), consistently maintaining a throughput of over 120,000 TEU containers per month. As the city's largest port enterprise, the first six months of 2025 are considered a vibrant period for Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company. According to Mr. Nguyen Tuong Anh, General Director of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company, in May, Hai Phong Port, together with its partners, officially put into operation berths 3 and 4 at the Hai Phong International Gateway Port in Lach Huyen, equipped with the most modern equipment currently available. The company is continuously expanding its market share and adding new service routes at Tan Vu and HTIT ports, coupled with the modernization of ship handling processes. As a result, the number of large ships arriving at the port has increased, cargo volume and revenue have risen, and employee income has remained stable and is showing growth…

Many port businesses in the city also achieved high growth rates in the first six months of the year, such as VIP Green Port, Nam Dinh Vu, Hai An, Nam Hai Dinh Vu, etc.

Along with the bustling activity of seagoing vessels, in the first six months of 2025, the operation of inland waterway vessels transporting goods to ports in Hai Phong was also vibrant, reaching 8.6 million tons, a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Hai Phong's role as an international transshipment port is gradually being affirmed, with transit cargo volume reaching 9.6 million tons in the past six months, double that of the same period in 2024 and achieving 97% of the 2025 plan.

Speed up to the finish line.

The trend of ships arriving at Hai Phong port is changing with more large vessels and ships using clean fuel. This will be a boost for the city's port to achieve its target of over 112 million tons of cargo throughput for the whole year of 2025. According to the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, despite the volatile global situation affecting maritime transport operations, port and transport businesses are maximizing their capacity in transporting and receiving goods. With the existing growth momentum, the target for total cargo throughput for the whole year of 2025 is expected to be achieved early, or even exceeded. According to a representative of TC-HICT, to ensure the growth target for cargo throughput at the port, the unit is coordinating with shipping lines to open many new maritime service routes, especially direct routes to the United States and Europe. This July, Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company, in collaboration with SITC Group and SITC-Dinh Vu Logistics Company Limited, officially inaugurated the first depot (dry port) in the Lach Huyen water port area. This combines the operational capacity of Hai Phong Port with SITC's global logistics strengths. Following the inauguration of phase 1, the parties agreed to expand the project to 30 to 50 hectares by 2030.

Meanwhile, just over three months after officially commencing operations, Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port (berths 5 and 6 in the Lach Huyen area) set a significant milestone by achieving a record-breaking productivity of 42 moves/hour/crane during ship handling. Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port continuously broke records for receiving the largest ships in terms of size and tonnage ever to dock at Hai Phong seaport. In July 2025, Hateco Port became the first port operator in the country to successfully implement an automated gate system and a TAS (Truck Appointment System) application. Accordingly, 100% of container trucks entering and leaving the port will conduct electronic transactions and proactively schedule appointments before arriving at the port; the automated gate system helps reduce vehicle processing time at the gate to less than 30 seconds…

With the strong growth and development of Hai Phong seaport, recently, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Decision 1497/QD-TTg approving the investment plan for the construction of berths No. 9, No. 10, No. 11, and No. 12 in the Lach Huyen port area, Hai Phong city. According to the investment phase, berths No. 9 and 10 will be invested in during the 2026-2030 period. Meanwhile, according to the commitment of the investor of berths No. 7 and No. 8, Tan Cang Saigon Corporation, the project will officially commence in the first quarter of 2026 at the latest. This is a driving force and an attractive factor for Hai Phong seaport to expand its reach to the open sea, welcoming more ships and goods to the port. In the short term, it aims to exceed the planned 112 million tons of cargo handled by Hai Phong seaport in 2025.
