In Quang Nam, despite graduating from university and having stable jobs, three women aged 23-25 decided to give it all up to pursue their dream of joining the military.
Nguyen Thi Thien Huong, 25 years old, from Que Phu commune, Que Son district, Quang Nam province, is one of four young women selected for military service in 2024 in the province. Her joy at enlisting on February 25th is even more meaningful as it is a childhood dream, continuing the family tradition of many members serving in the military.
Born into a family where her father had passed away, her mother was a small business owner, and her older brother was also a businessman, Huong harbored an early ambition to wear the military uniform. In 2017, after graduating from high school, Huong applied to a military school but did not pass the entrance exam. Undeterred, she attended the University of Finance and Marketing in Ho Chi Minh City and continued to prepare for the entrance exam to the Military Science Academy (Hanoi) in 2018. However, at that time, Huong was 0.125 points short of her desired admission score.
After graduating from the University of Finance and Marketing, Huong worked as a bank employee in Ho Chi Minh City, then moved to Da Nang to work as a finance employee for a foreign company to be closer to home. Just when she thought she had missed out on her dream, at the end of 2023, when Quang Nam province had a recruitment quota for female soldiers, Huong immediately volunteered. "After many failed attempts, I was very worried when submitting my application. When I received the decision to enlist, I was so happy I wanted to cry," Huong shared.
She believes that the military environment is a place to hone character, discipline, and face many challenges. However, with the determination and willpower of youth, she is confident that she will complete all assigned tasks. "I will try my best to stay with the military for the long term, and no matter what field I am assigned to, I am ready to meet the requirements and complete the tasks well," Huong said.

About 20 km from Thien Huong's home, Ho Thi Thanh Hang, 23 years old, from Que Minh commune, Que Son district, is also eager to join the army. She said she is very proud to be in the same ranks as her father - a military doctor.
Having harbored a childhood dream of wearing a military uniform, after graduating from high school in 2019, Hang applied to a military school but was unsuccessful. Like Thien Huong, Hang studied Tourism and Hotel Management at Duy Tan University (Da Nang) and prepared to retake the military school entrance exam. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hang was unable to fulfill her dream.
After graduating from university in July 2023, Hang worked at a hotel earning nearly 8 million VND per month. Her life was stable, but Hang still dreamed of joining the army. She happily volunteered when she learned that this year's recruitment included female positions. "After many days of waiting, I was overwhelmed with happiness when I received my acceptance letter," Hang shared.
She is confident that she will perform well in the military environment, having been inspired, encouraged, and constantly reminded and taught about regulations and rules by her father. Hang said she will strive to train hard to become a good soldier, worthy of her family's tradition.

Tran Thi Trang, 24 years old, from Tien Ky town, Tien Phuoc district, graduated from the Tourism and Hotel Management major at Duy Tan University (Da Nang) in 2021. She had a stable job as a communications and advertising employee for a company, earning nearly 10 million VND per month, but upon hearing that the province would be recruiting female citizens for military service, she volunteered.
"My family are all traders; no one in my family is in the military. However, I've always loved and wanted to become a soldier because the military is a place to hone courage, discipline, and order, helping me to mature," Trang shared.
Although she knew the military environment would be challenging, especially for a girl, Trang wasn't worried at all. She believed she had the health and spirit to overcome any difficulties and dedicate her youth to the country.

According to regulations, female citizens of military service age during peacetime may serve if they volunteer and the military has a need. Female citizens registering for military service must be 18 years of age or older and have a profession or occupation suitable to the military's requirements.
In 2024, the recruitment and conscription of citizens into the military was carried out in one phase. The handover of recruits took place over three days, from February 25th to February 27th. In Quang Nam province, the handover ceremony took place at 6:00 AM on February 25th in 18 districts, towns, and cities. The total number of citizens conscripted from the province was 2,554, including 2,550 men and 4 women.
