Starting from nothing, they overcame difficulties, achieved legitimate wealth, and at the same time spread the spirit of sharing, contributing to promoting the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business in the city.

Overcoming difficulties to rise up and become wealthy.

Born and raised in a disadvantaged family, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dong strived to become one of the outstanding farmers and businesswomen at the central level. After persistently learning through technical training courses, in 2009, Ms. Dong boldly opened an agency supplying animal feed and breeding stock, both serving local farmers and utilizing surplus materials to develop her own livestock farming. From there, her livestock business gradually expanded, laying the foundation for her to develop the large-scale farm model she has today.

To date, Ms. Dong owns a 50,000m2 production area, raising 6,000 pigs and 10,000 chickens annually. The entire farming process utilizes modern technology combined with self-mixed feed from local agricultural products, saving costs and ensuring quality. This model not only generates significant profits but has also become a destination for many farmers in the region to visit and learn from.

Currently, Ms. Dong's business provides regular and seasonal employment for approximately 9-11 workers, with an average income of 10.5 million VND per month. Each year, her family contributes over 100 million VND in taxes, making a positive contribution to the local budget.

Not only has she enriched her family, but Ms. Dong has also spread the spirit of sharing within the community. During the Covid-19 pandemic, her family donated over 200 million VND along with many agricultural products to support people in the affected areas. Every year, she also awards scholarships and Tet gifts to poor students and disadvantaged households in the area, totaling over 150 million VND.

“I simply thought that doing my best would provide stability for my family and help the surrounding community develop. Today's success is thanks to the support of the government, the Farmers' Association, and the trust of the people. I will continue to expand the model, apply modern technology to ensure sustainable livestock farming, and bring greater value to the community,” Ms. Dong shared.

Spreading the spirit of social responsibility

Born into a farming family in Hiep Duc commune, farmer Pham Van Luan's childhood was spent in the fields and his parents' small nursery. After graduating from Hue University of Economics , Mr. Luan tried his hand at various jobs, but the income was unstable. Upon getting married, he decided to return to the seedling business. Saving up and borrowing 500 million VND, he and his wife started their business from scratch, renting land in Ba Vang commune to open a nursery. In 2015, he established Bac Trung Nam Seedling Company Limited.

The initial journey proved far more difficult than Mr. Luan had anticipated, as the location was far from the city center, few people knew about it, and his capital was dwindling. Undeterred, Mr. Luan decided to move his entire nursery to An Tan village (Hoa Vang commune). In that barren land, he rebuilt everything from scratch. For a time, he had to load truckloads of seedlings and travel throughout Central and Western Vietnam to sell them.

That perseverance paid off, and gradually more and more customers came to know about his business. From just a few thousand initial seedlings, his nursery has now expanded to over 15,000 square meters , supplying approximately 1 million seedlings to the market annually, generating revenue of over 12 billion VND. Furthermore, he has created jobs for 10 permanent employees with incomes of 6-7 million VND per month and 40 seasonal workers.

In addition to economic development, Mr. Luan actively participates in social work, supporting the local community in many welfare activities, and also serves as the head of the professional association for forestry and medicinal plant production. For these efforts, in August 2025, he was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee for his achievements in the emulation movement for excellent production and business.

Mr. Luan shared: "Without the support of my wife and the trust of the villagers, I probably wouldn't have been able to persevere in this profession. Starting a business in agriculture is not easy, but it is those difficulties that have made me more determined, so that today I can contribute to creating jobs, greening the land, and preserving the forests of my homeland."

Mr. Nguyen Ut, Vice Chairman of the City Farmers' Association, assessed: "The entrepreneurial journey of Ms. Nguyen Thi Dong and Mr. Pham Van Luan has demonstrated the resilience and aspiration of the city's farmers. Starting from nothing, they have built an effective production and business model, creating stable jobs, while also readily sharing and supporting the community, contributing to beautifying the image of farmers in the new era. This is proof of the spirit of innovation and creativity that the association is encouraging."

Looking ahead, Mr. Ut said, the City Farmers' Association will continue to replicate effective models and encourage members to apply modern technology to production. At the same time, it will link the emulation movement with the construction of new rural areas, aiming for green and sustainable agricultural development.
