Mr. Ngoc pointed out where the truck avoided encroaching on the curb, causing the curb to collapse.
Observation on April 12, 2023 showed that the edge of the asphalt road on the shore of Dau Tieng Lake had many collapsed sections at the junction between the asphalt road surface and the adjacent land shoulder, most notably at the section of road across the underground sewer area.
At the roadside collapses as above, it creates high vertical walls and long deep ditches, which are very dangerous for people and vehicles participating in traffic. It is even more dangerous when the roadside collapses at curves, the risk of accidents at night is quite high.
Mr. Ngo Van Ngoc, a resident who owns a beverage shop on the side of DT.781 road, said that those high walls were formed by heavy trucks avoiding each other while traveling on the road, while the road was narrow so the wheels encroached on the adjacent land curb causing subsidence, revealing the asphalt road wall with such vertical angles.
Mr. Ngoc also said that if the truck drives further into the lake shore, it will cause the warning posts to break and the sewer covers to break. In fact, the authorities often replace broken sewer covers, but they break again not long after.
“I often see two-wheeled vehicle drivers “falling off the curb” to avoid heavy trucks at bends with high road walls and deep ditches. Such damaged road locations are really dangerous. The authorities need to have a direction to reinforce these locations seamlessly and firmly to ensure traffic safety,” said Mai Van Dong, a local resident who often collects scrap metal on Highway 781.
In fact, there are many sections of drainage culverts adjacent to the asphalt road but the covers have been broken, revealing long, “deadly” deep gaps. Sewer sections adjacent to the road but with broken covers like that are no different from “traps” that are extremely dangerous for people and vehicles traveling on the road, especially at night.
Authorities need to quickly repair and fix to avoid traffic accidents.
