(CLO) 2024 witnessed a series of tragic aviation accidents worldwide , sparking discussions about aviation safety and crisis management.
One of the incidents that has recently attracted particular attention is the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash on Christmas Eve, when an Embraer 190 carrying 67 people from Baku to Grozny crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan.
The accident occurred when the plane was diverted due to bad weather and attempted an emergency landing at Aktau airport, but unfortunately encountered problems upon landing. As a result, 42 people died, with only 25 survivors. This accident raised many questions about aviation safety during the festive season.
Other serious accidents in 2024:
January 2nd: Collision at Haneda Airport, Japan
A collision occurred on the runway of Tokyo's Haneda Airport between a Japan Airlines Airbus A350 and a Japan Coast Guard aircraft. Although all 379 passengers on the commercial flight were safely evacuated, five crew members on the Japan Coast Guard aircraft were killed in the accident.

January 24: Russian Ilyushin Il-76M aircraft crashes.
A Russian Ilyushin Il-76M transport plane crashed in the Belgorod region, killing 74 people, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war. Moscow said the plane was shot down by a Ukrainian missile, making it the deadliest aviation tragedy of 2024.
July 24th: Saurya Airlines flight CRJ200 crashes.
A Bombardier CRJ200 belonging to Saurya Airlines crashed shortly after takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. Of the 19 people on board, 18 were killed, with only the pilot surviving. Initial investigations have highlighted concerns about maintenance issues at the airline.
August 9th: Voepass Airlines ATR-72 plane crash.
An ATR-72 aircraft belonging to Voepass Airlines crashed near the Vinhedo residential area of São Paulo, Brazil. Despite the pilot's attempts to control the situation, severe icing caused the aircraft to lose control. The accident claimed the lives of 62 people, including 58 passengers and 4 crew members. Bad weather conditions and pilot error are believed to have been the causes of the crash.
