The (new) Ca Mau province has a natural area of over 7,942 km2 and a population of over 2.6 million people. After the merger, Ca Mau province has 64 administrative units at the commune level (9 wards, 55 communes), of which Bac Lieu ward has the smallest area but the largest population, and Dat Mui commune - the southernmost commune of the country - is the largest commune in the province. Notably, among the 64 new communes and wards of Ca Mau, only Ho Thi Ky commune was retained and not merged.

Bac Lieu Ward was formed by merging Wards 1, 2, 3, 7, and 8, covering an area of over 29.7 km2. Ho Thi Ky commune has a natural area of 93.6 km2 and a population of 27,283 people. It borders An Xuyen commune to the east and the Khanh An Gas-Electricity-Fertilizer Industrial Zone to the west. It is located in the developing economic zone of Ca Mau province. Ho Thi Ky commune has a rich history and traditional revolutionary culture, and was honored with the title "Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces" by the President of Vietnam. The commune has a large ethnic minority population. Since the Trans-Asian Highway and the expressway were built, the lives of the people in Ho Thi Ky commune have continuously improved with various economic models such as rice-shrimp farming, trade, and services.
Tac Thu hamlet (Ho Thi Ky commune) is bustling with activity in the gathering and transportation of construction materials, both by road and waterway.
As the largest commune in Ca Mau province, Dat Mui was recently formed by merging Dat Mui commune, parts of Vien An commune, and parts of Tan An commune. It covers an area of over 271 km2 and has a population of over 33,290 people.
