Nissan Z9 GE PHEV 2025 - cheap electric pickup truck 549 million VND

In the Chinese market, the 2025 Nissan Z9 GE PHEV is priced from only 156,900 Yuan (about 549 million VND).

For those looking for a budget midsize pickup, China is quietly becoming a treasure trove of surprising options. One of them is the new Z9 from Zhengzhou Nissan. Zhengzhou Nissan is the pickup-making arm of the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture.

Zhengzhou Nissan has just expanded its Z9 line in the Chinese market with a plug-in hybrid version called the GE PHEV. This model is essentially an electrified version of the Nissan Frontier Pro made in China. Previously, the Zhengzhou Nissan Z9 in this billion-people market only had gasoline and diesel versions.

Although the Zhengzhou Nissan Z9 and Nissan Frontier Pro are "brothers", the design of these two pickup trucks has differences such as the radiator grille or front bumper. Both also have their own characteristic LED strip lights at the front and rear. Meanwhile, the body of this pair is not identical.

With a length of 5,494 mm and a wheelbase of 3,300 mm, the Zhengzhou Nissan Z9 GE PHEV fits neatly into the mid-size pickup segment. The vehicle is only available in a 5-seat double-cab configuration with a 1,520 mm long rear bed. Inside, the Zhengzhou Nissan Z9 has outstanding equipment for its price range.

The car is equipped with a 12.8-inch infotainment screen and a standard 10.25-inch digital clock. Higher-end versions have a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, Nappa leather seats, along with modern amenities such as heated/cooled/massaged seats or a 12-speaker sound system.

Not stopping there, the pickup truck for the world's largest auto market is also equipped with ultrasonic radar, a 360-degree camera with "transparent hood" mode, allowing the driver to observe under the chassis, and 4 HD cameras supporting the level 2 semi-autonomous driving system.

The "heart" of the Zhengzhou Nissan Z9 GE PHEV is a plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. Depending on the version, the car will have a total capacity of 322 horsepower or 429 horsepower while the maximum torque reaches 800 Nm.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through an automatic transmission specifically designed for hybrid vehicles. The pickup truck has two battery options with a capacity of 17 kWh and 32.85 kWh. These two batteries provide electric driving ranges of 60 km and 135 km, respectively.

In the Chinese market, the Zhengzhou Nissan Z9 GE PHEV has a price range of only 156,900 - 219,900 Yuan (about 549 - 769 million VND).

Meanwhile, the regular petrol and diesel versions of the car start at 119,900 yuan (419 million VND). Zhengzhou Nissan has not yet announced the price of the new Frontier Pro pickup truck launched at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. It is expected to cost slightly more than the Z9 GE PHEV.

What’s more interesting is that the Nissan Frontier Pro will likely be sold outside of China. If the company can keep the price reasonable, this could be an attractive option worth considering in the mid-size pickup segment.
