Doctor Do Manh Thang, Director of the Hospital, said that comrade Pham Van Thang was admitted to the hospital on the morning of August 17 in a state of loss of movement, bleeding profusely, and his thumb and forefinger were severed from his right hand.
The doctors held a consultation, had the patient undergo the necessary tests and decided to perform emergency surgery to reattach the patient's severed finger. The surgery involved the coordination of many specialist teams including: vascular, orthopedic trauma, microsurgery, plastic surgery and neurology.

The surgical team performed bone fixation, tendon suturing, blood vessel revascularization, nerve restoration, skin suturing and shaping, compression bandages and splints to keep the finger in a stable position... After 6 hours of continuous surgery, the severed thumb and thumb socket of comrade Pham Van Thang were successfully reattached.
Doctor Do Manh Thang added that this is a complicated injury with a very high risk of disability. The success of the surgery is very promising, opening up the opportunity to restore almost normal hand function for the patient.
Currently, Comrade Thang's reattached finger has turned pink again, has capillary blood, is gradually warming up and is able to recover movement and sensation during the monitoring process. The patient is awake, breathing on his own, and has stable blood pressure.
Previously, as reported, on the morning of August 17, while on duty protecting the target at Gia Minh Drug Rehabilitation Center (Bach Dang Ward, Hai Phong City), comrade Pham Van Thang was seriously injured by four subjects with knives.
Up to now, all 4 related subjects have been arrested. The Investigation Police Agency of Hai Phong City Police has issued a decision to temporarily detain these 4 subjects for investigation and handling according to the provisions of law.
