BHG - With the advantages of easy consumption and stable productivity, for many years, watermelon has been chosen by farmers in Yen Minh district to change the crop structure. At this time, local people are urgently harvesting spring melons.
Watermelon season is good, farmers are excited to harvest. |
In this crop, Yen Minh district planted 33.7 hectares of watermelon, mainly in the communes of Na Khe, Huu Vinh, Mau Long and Mau Due. Thanks to favorable weather and people's attention to the stages of land preparation, bed making, pruning, and proper fertilization, the area grew well and yielded high yields. In addition, 100% of the area used plastic film to prevent weeds, retain moisture, and limit the use of pesticides, thus ensuring product quality.

The total output of the district is estimated to reach over 130 tons, the current retail price is 15,000 VND/kg. Localities are actively connecting with cooperatives and units to organize large-scale purchases and concentrated harvesting, creating conditions for farmers to consume products. Watermelon trees bring high profits, after deducting costs, people have a profit of about 70 million VND/ha, twice as high as rice and corn. Therefore, for many years now, this has been an effective direction implemented by many localities, contributing to diversifying livelihood activities and increasing income for people.
