Came to Vietnam just because I fell in love with a movie

Maysaa Bouavone Phanthaboouasy (born 2001, Lao nationality), has recently become an interesting internet phenomenon. She is an international student but speaks fluent Vietnamese and is very successful in developing content on the TikTok platform.

After watching the movie The Scent of Burning Grass , Maysaa was deeply moved by the love of the Vietnamese people for their country. Through learning about the special relationship between Laos and Vietnam, Maysaa's heart ignited a desire to come here to study and explore .

With this goal in mind, Maysaa devoted herself to her studies and won a scholarship from Luangprabanga province, Laos.

When they learned that their daughter would go to Vietnam to study, Maysaa's family, especially her father, immediately agreed and said: "You don't need to think about it because Vietnam is a country with a very good learning environment." At that time, only her mother was a bit worried because Maysaa didn't know Vietnamese yet. She hoped that her daughter would choose a province where many Lao students were studying.

Maysaa's family is very supportive of her daughter choosing Vietnam to study abroad.

According to Luangprabanga province's regulations, students who receive scholarships will be able to choose universities in the three provinces of Son La, Thai Nguyen, and Quang Ninh . Without thinking too much, Maysaa chose Quang Ninh to study.

"Laos has no sea. Before that, I watched on TV about the beautiful beaches in Ha Long Bay and wished to come here. Quang Ninh was the right choice for me," Maysaa said.

It was an afternoon in October 2019 when the female student set foot in Vietnam. At that time, Maysaa felt that this land was very hospitable and interesting, but she could not help but feel homesick and worried because this was the first time she had gone far away.

Enrolled in the Faculty of Banking Economics, Quang Ninh University of Industry, a school where Maysaa did not know anyone when she first arrived. At that time, Maysaa encountered many difficulties because she was not used to the food and did not know Vietnamese, so wherever she went, she needed a Lao person to go with her to translate.

"At home, I eat a bit salty and spicy food. When I came here, I found the food a bit bland. At first, I wasn't used to it so I only ate instant noodles, but gradually I found the food very delicious. There are many dishes that I don't have in my country. When I returned to Laos, I really missed Vietnamese food," Maysaa said.

Fortunately, during her time studying, teachers and friends at school supported Maysaa a lot. However, Maysaa still frowns when thinking about the first time learning Vietnamese. "It's not as simple as I thought," the female student admitted.

However, for Maysaa, she will focus on what she likes. After 7 months, Maysaa can speak Vietnamese and confidently go grocery shopping alone. After about a year, the female student can speak Vietnamese fluently. Thanks to that, in the first year, Maysaa was the student with the highest score and received a certificate of merit.

Became famous after a clip when he just recovered from illness

Talking about the opportunity to become the owner of a TikTok channel with 720 thousand followers, Maysaa said that luck was indispensable. The next day, this video went viral and received many compliments from viewers.

Most people are very excited when a foreigner can speak Vietnamese fluently. Not only that, in each video, Maysaa also speaks very interestingly.
