Dak Lak A 9th grade female student died after running about 250m during physical education class, believed to be due to cardiovascular disease.

According to a report from Tan Loi Secondary School, Buon Ma Thuot City, on September 27, the incident occurred at around 7am yesterday. At that time, students of class 9A2 were participating in a physical education class with short and long-distance running.

At around 7:30 a.m., after running about 250 meters, a female student walked to the finish line and started to stagger and fell. The physical education teacher gave first aid and called the school medical staff for assistance. The school then called a car to take the female student to Thien Hanh General Hospital, but the female student died shortly after.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thao, Vice Principal of Tan Loi Secondary School, before the incident, the female student was completely healthy and went to school normally. However, doctors later said that the female student had an underlying cardiovascular disease.

Sudden Death is a condition in which the victim dies unexpectedly, immediately after the onset of the disease. Sudden death can happen at any age.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Director of the Pediatric Center, Bach Mai Hospital, the cause of this condition is mainly due to cardiac arrest and myocardial infarction. To prevent sudden death, people need to monitor their health, adjust their diet and lifestyle appropriately, and promptly visit the doctor for advice.

People with cardiovascular disease should do light exercise every day for 15-30 minutes such as yoga, walking, swimming; do not exercise outdoors when the weather is too cold or too hot.

Currently, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that students with chronic diseases, disabilities, accidents or illnesses requiring treatment are exempted from the practical part of Physical Education and National Defense and Security Education. Students need to have a medical record or certificate issued by a hospital at district level or higher and submit an application for exemption from this subject to the school.
