AUSTRALIA - Hoping to enjoy a pleasant family dinner, a female diner was shocked to discover maggots in a steak costing 1 million Vietnamese dong.
The woman from the Blue Mountains went to a restaurant in Penrith, Australia on November 10th to enjoy dinner with her husband and son. She was hoping for a pleasant family meal, but an unexpected event occurred that shocked her.
"Just seconds after the steak was placed on the table, I noticed something was wrong. When I looked closely, I saw something moving," she shared.
She ordered a steak that cost $42 (approximately 1 million VND). Her husband initially thought it might be seasoning, but upon closer inspection, they realized it was maggots.
The staff insisted the maggots didn't come from the steak but possibly from a nearby salad. They also reassured the female diner that the restaurant has a high ranking in food safety and hygiene, according to ABC News .
The staff offered to replace her plate of food, but she refused. "I said I couldn't eat here anymore, I just wanted to leave," she said.
The restaurant stated that immediately after receiving the complaint, an environmental health officer conducted a food safety inspection the following morning. The report indicated that the inspection revealed nothing concerning.
They also confirmed that the meat was stored in sealed bags and the salad in sealed containers, making contamination during processing unlikely.
The woman said that after the incident, she felt very uncomfortable and scared. "I just want an apology for what I went through. This experience has made me feel insecure and afraid," she shared.
