The homepage of the 33rd SEA Games has been continuously updated in recent days with promotional content about a “green” – environmentally friendly – tournament, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and spread ecological awareness in the Southeast Asian sports community.
The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), the main organizer of the 33rd SEA Games, is working to make the concept of the “Green SEA Games” a reality. This strategy is inspired by the recent Olympic Games, where sustainability and the environment were given top priority.
According to the organizing committee’s promotional materials, “Green SEA Games” is not just a communication message, but a specific action plan. From using clean energy, reducing the consumption of disposable plastics, to encouraging environmentally friendly forms of transportation – all are aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions during the games.
One of the notable measures is to call on Thai people and tourists participating in the SEA Games to “carpool” – ride together on the same route. This is a solution that has been applied in many large cities around the world to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.
According to the organizers, this action can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 41.81%–70.90%. For fans and tourists , the use of public transportation such as subways, bus rapid transit (BRT), or light rail (tram) will be maximally supported, with maps and instructions publicly available on the official website of the 33rd SEA Games.
In the context of the world increasingly focusing on sustainable development and environmental responsibility, Thailand's efforts in organizing an environmentally friendly SEA Games are highly appreciated.
This is also a new step forward in organizing large-scale sporting events in the ASEAN region, not only promoting the spirit of sportsmanship, but also integrating humanistic values and sustainable development.
