Báo Bắc GiangBáo Bắc Giang10/08/2023

Having cherished this idea for many years, however, by the end of July 2023, Mr. Tran Xuan Giang, Hoang Tan commune (Quang Yen town ( Quang Ninh ) boldly invested more than 200 million VND to invest in a model of raising crabs in plastic boxes. This is the first model of raising crabs in plastic boxes in Quang Yen town, promising to open up a promising direction for the local aquaculture industry.

Finished crabs for sale weigh about 3 to 4 crabs/kg, with a selling price of 650,000 to 700,000/kg.

3 years ago, after being introduced and shared by a close friend about the model of raising crabs in plastic boxes, seeing that it had a lot of potential, Mr. Tran Xuan Giang had the idea of investing in a pilot model of raising this model right in the locality. From 2020 to now, Mr. Giang has searched through many information channels and visited crab farming models in boxes to learn from experience. Before that, his family also had experience in raising crabs in the form of extensive farming in ponds for more than ten years. Although this model brings a good income, raising crabs in ponds is prone to many risks, crabs often get sick, leading to low yield, economic value, and low profit. After a period of research, Mr. Giang realized that the model of raising crabs in plastic boxes in some other localities brings high economic efficiency, so he decided to invest in factories, plastic box systems, water treatment systems, breeds... to pursue this model.

Taking us to visit the crab farming model in plastic boxes, Mr. Tran Xuan Giang shared: Initially, the family reinvested in the factory system, ordering 648 plastic boxes to raise crabs. Each rectangular plastic box is 30-40cm long, divided into compartments, each compartment raises a crab. To tame the natural crab breed to grow and develop in the plastic box environment, it takes a lot of time and effort. The crab breed raised in the box is selected and purchased from local extensive crab farming households. Each crab weighs about 2-2.5g, ensuring health. The water source for raising the box crabs is taken directly by Mr. Giang from the Ben Giang River, with a salinity level corresponding to the lagoon crab breed that people are raising in the extensive form. During the raising process, the parameters of water quality, temperature, health, and eating ability of the crabs must be regularly checked, in order to promptly adjust the system to ensure the living environment for the crabs.

According to Mr. Giang, raising crabs in boxes is different from raising crabs in the lagoon. Raising crabs in plastic boxes takes up less space. However, the process of feeding crabs will take more time than raising crabs in the lagoon because food will have to be put into each box for the crabs to eat. Every day, crabs are cared for with 2 meals according to the schedule (7am and 5pm). What is quite special is that the crabs' food is mainly fresh seafood such as oysters, fresh fish, mussels, etc. These are all food sources collected from local sea areas, so it is easy to be proactive and save costs. Not only that, raising crabs in plastic boxes can control the quantity, has few diseases, is convenient to care for, and is quick to harvest...

After more than 10 days of raising over 600 crabs in plastic boxes, the crab farming model of Mr. Tran Xuan Giang's family is now adapting and growing well. The survival rate of crabs is 93-95%. It is expected that crabs will be raised in boxes for 15-35 days until the molting cycle (shedding their shells). This is the stage when crabs begin to be harvested, reaching about 3-4 crabs/kg. Molted crabs have high nutritional content, so they are ordered by many traders and restaurants. Currently, the average selling price of molted crabs ranges from 650,000-700,000 VND/kg (200,000-250,000 VND/kg higher than commercial crabs raised in ponds). In the near future, Mr. Giang plans to expand and develop the farming of 3,000 crabs in plastic boxes.

Mr. Dam Chi Thiet, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hoang Tan Commune (Quang Yen Town) assessed: Although the model of raising sea crabs in plastic boxes of Mr. Tran Xuan Giang's family is in the pilot phase, it has attracted the attention of many farmers to visit and learn from experience. Currently, Hoang Tan Commune encourages households raising oysters, mussels, fish in cages, etc. to switch to developing new models, applying high technology to production. In the coming time, if the model of raising sea crabs in plastic boxes continues to be implemented effectively, the commune will create conditions for people to come to learn from experience, apply and replicate this model, aiming to build the Hoang Tan sea crab brand to become a local OCOP product.

Custard apple production decreased, price high

(BGDT) - Custard apple growers in Huyen Son commune, Luc Nam district ( Bac Giang ) have begun the harvest season. The selling price at this time is relatively high, however, due to crop failure, the yield is low, so farmers' income has decreased compared to previous years.
