With large car inventories, dealerships are offering deep discounts.

The supply of new cars continues to increase while existing inventory remains unsold, forcing many manufacturers and dealerships to lower prices and offer registration fee subsidies to stimulate demand.

With new cars arriving constantly, used cars are forced to be heavily discounted.

Observations at several car dealerships in Ho Chi Minh City in early May 2026 show that car prices are falling sharply, especially for models manufactured in 2024-2025 that are still in stock. Sales are rather sluggish, while sales consultants are constantly offering promotional packages to persuade customers to finalize their purchases early.

At several car showrooms along National Highway 13 in Ho Chi Minh City, sales staff said that many gasoline-powered car models are currently being offered with direct cash discounts or converted from programs supporting registration fees, insurance, and maintenance.

In the mainstream vehicle segment, sedan, MPV, and small SUV models are currently being heavily discounted.

Toyota Vios, Veloz Cross, Avanza Premio, and Yaris Cross are eligible for support ranging from 50% to 100% of registration fees, along with comprehensive insurance and preferential loan interest rates in the first year.

Honda City, BR-V, and HR-V also receive a 50% discount on registration fees, plus genuine insurance.

Many dealerships report that their inventory mainly consists of 2024 and 2025 models. While the older models remain unsold, 2026 models continue to arrive after the Lunar New Year, causing supply to exceed demand.

This situation has forced many manufacturers and dealerships to increase incentives. Popular programs include 50-100% support for registration fees, cash discounts, free insurance, maintenance, or preferential loan interest rates.

Many automotive businesses believe the market is highly competitive, particularly between gasoline and electric vehicles. Electric vehicles offer significant advantages in terms of running costs and sales policies, making it more difficult for internal combustion engine vehicles to sell.

In May 2026, Isuzu dealerships offered 100% support for registration fees. Kia reduced prices by up to 85 million VND for the Sonet, Seltos, and Carens. The Mazda CX-8 was reduced by approximately 60 million VND, bringing the price down to around 880 million VND per unit.

Skoda Karoq is offered with registration fee support, cash discounts, and a free 1,000 liters of gasoline. Ford Territory is discounted by approximately 60 million VND per vehicle at dealerships.

The biggest price drop was recorded for the Suzuki Jimny. Some salespeople in Ho Chi Minh City are offering this SUV model at a real price of 649 million VND, about 140 million VND lower than the listed price. The discount mainly applies to vehicles manufactured in 2024.

According to automotive experts, the discount program will continue if purchasing power does not improve. With new cars continuing to arrive on the market, the pressure to clear existing inventory, especially cars manufactured in 2024-2025, remains significant.

The automotive supply situation has reversed: domestically produced cars are increasing, while imported cars are decreasing.

According to the General Statistics Office, approximately 67,200 new cars were added to the Vietnamese market in April 2026, including both domestically produced and imported vehicles. This figure represents a 4.5% decrease compared to the previous month, when over 70,000 vehicles were launched.

Imports of completely assembled cars decreased sharply in April. The whole country imported approximately 17,000 cars, worth 486 million USD, a decrease of 32.7% in volume and 17.6% in value compared to March.

In the first four months of the year, Vietnam imported 73,012 complete automobiles, worth $1.816 billion, representing increases of 12.3% and 29.6% respectively compared to the same period in 2025.
