Gas-efficient Omoda C7 is coming to Vietnam, competing with BYD Sealion 6?

At the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), the Omoda brand brought the C7 SHS model to display and introduce. Now, the Chery subsidiary brand has "teased" the new Omoda C7 SHS 2025 in the Malaysian market.

It seems that the Omoda C7 SHS SUV will be sold in many Southeast Asian markets in the near future, including the Philippines. Therefore, it will not be surprising if this model is also distributed in Vietnam.

As a rival to the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i newly launched in Vietnam, the Omoda C7 SHS has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,660 x 1,875 x 1,670 mm. However, the car looks more compact than its actual size. We must praise the designers of Omoda because the C7 SHS has a design style that stands out compared to many other Chinese car models.

The front of the car features a hood that juts forward like a bird's beak, sharp headlights, and a geometric grille that blends into the front bumper. The grille features hexagonal mesh, painted in the same color as the body, and is reminiscent of newer Lexus models.

Next up is a set of 19-inch alloy wheels with an aerodynamic design. The rear of the car is equally eye-catching with a deep-sloping rear window and lightning-shaped taillights.

The interior of the Omoda C7 SHS is minimalist with a few interesting details such as a two-spoke steering wheel, an 8.88-inch digital dashboard and a large head-up display (HUD) above. The air-conditioning vents are located at the top of the dashboard, just below the center speaker.

The most unique feature of the Omoda C7 SHS is the 15.6-inch central touch screen that can slide to the right for use by the front passenger. This is a feature that is quite rare on current car models.

Other notable amenities include Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, ventilated front seats, a driver's seat with massage function, a panoramic sunroof, ambient interior lighting, a 50W wireless charger, and an 8-speaker Sony sound system. The ADAS active safety technology package is also equipped for this model.

Under the hood of the Omoda C7 SHS is the Super Hybrid System powertrain shared with the Jaecoo J7 PHEV currently sold in Vietnam. This powertrain includes a 1.5L, turbocharged, 4-cylinder gasoline engine specifically for hybrid vehicles.

This engine has been slightly upgraded to a maximum capacity of 156 horsepower and a maximum torque of 220 Nm. In addition, there is a strong electric motor of 204 horsepower / 310 Nm and a dedicated single-speed hybrid transmission (DHT). The total power of the above system is 360 horsepower and 530 Nm, 13 horsepower and 5 Nm higher than the Jaecoo J7 PHEV.

Despite being more powerful, the Omoda C7 PHEV still accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, equivalent to the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. The car is equipped with a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery called Blade with a capacity of 18.3 kWh provided by BYD, allowing for pure electric travel of 90 km.

The total operating range of the car after fully charging the battery and filling up with gas is 1,258 km. Users can charge the car's battery through the charging port located on the right rear fender. In addition to the plug-in hybrid version, the Omoda C7 also has a version using a traditional internal combustion engine. Unfortunately, the price of the Omoda C7 PHEV has not been revealed yet.
