The letters mark the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations and come about a month after Mr Kim’s trip to Russia, during which Mr Kim and Mr Putin discussed military cooperation, including North Korea’s satellite program and the war in Ukraine.

In the letter, Mr Kim said he was extremely satisfied with the “candid, comprehensive” discussions during the visit. He pledged to further develop relations to a “new level” and wished Mr Putin luck in resisting Western pressure.
“I hope that the Russian people will always gain victory and glory in the struggle to protect the country's sovereignty, dignity, security and peace by crushing the persistent imperialist hegemonism and sabotage,” Kim wrote in the letter.
For his part, in a message to Mr. Kim, Mr. Putin said the recent meeting of the two leaders was further evidence of the development of the relationship.
“I am convinced that the implementation of the agreements will contribute to further expanding constructive bilateral cooperation aimed at improving the well-being of the peoples of both countries and ensuring security and stability on the Korean Peninsula and throughout Northeast Asia,” Putin wrote.
