RT reported that speaking at an international legal forum in St. Petersburg on May 20, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev admitted that Moscow "absolutely does not like the current Kiev government."
However, he suggested that Ukrainian authorities have "a last chance to preserve some kind of statehood or some kind of international legal entity and have a chance for peaceful development", after the Ukraine conflict is resolved.

Former Russian President Medvedev stressed that although Ukraine is currently a non- sovereign and incomplete state, Moscow is still ready to conduct direct and unconditional peace negotiations, based on the current situation on the ground and the goal of resolving the root causes of the conflict.
Moscow is concerned that no leader in Ukraine currently has the legal authority to sign any kind of peace agreement with Russia, he noted.
In fact, Volodymyr Zelensky's presidential term (of Ukraine) ended last year, but he refused to hold new elections on the grounds that martial law was in place.
