Mr. Tran Thanh Man holds the position of Member of the National Defense and Security Council.

On the morning of May 22nd, at the 7th session, President To Lam submitted to the National Assembly for approval the appointment of Mr. Tran Thanh Man , Chairman of the 15th National Assembly, as a member of the National Defense and Security Council.

The National Assembly approves members of the National Defense and Security Council upon the recommendation of the President through a secret ballot.

As a result, the National Assembly agreed to approve Mr. Tran Thanh Man's appointment as a member of the National Defense and Security Council for the term 2021-2026.

The resolution approving the members of the National Defense and Security Council was also passed by the National Assembly delegates with 463 out of 463 participating delegates voting in favor (accounting for 95.07% of the total number of National Assembly delegates).

Previously, on May 20th, the National Assembly elected Mr. Tran Thanh Man to the position of Chairman of the 15th National Assembly.

The Constitution stipulates that the National Defense and Security Council consists of a Chairman, a Vice Chairman, and members. The list of members of the National Defense and Security Council is submitted by the President to the National Assembly for approval.

The President of Vietnam holds the position of Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council. According to the list approved by the 15th National Assembly at the beginning of its term, the Vice Chairman of the Council is the Prime Minister; the members are the Chairman of the National Assembly, the Minister of National Defense, the Minister of Public Security, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The National Defence and Security Council operates collectively and makes decisions by majority vote.

The National Defense and Security Council submits to the National Assembly for decision the state of war; if the National Assembly cannot convene, it submits to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for decision; mobilizes all forces and capabilities of the country to defend the Fatherland; carries out special tasks and powers assigned by the National Assembly in the event of war; and decides on the participation of the people's armed forces in activities contributing to the protection of peace in the region and the world.
